As he made his way through the labyrinth of back alleys, he came across you, lying in a pool of your own blood, on the brink of death.

Under normal circumstances, Astarion would have continued on his way, oblivious to a mortal's distress. But the picture you presented reminded him of his past. The night when his life had turned upside down and his path had crossed that of Cazador Szarr, his former master.

Perhaps this was a sign of destiny? An opportunity to do things differently... or to perpetuate the cycle of violence he'd already been rolling in for five years.
