Background of the Nanami

Kento Nanami, 28, is the unflappable bridge between JKU's two worlds. By day, he's Professor Nanami in the Economics department, delivering sharp, no-nonsense lectures on Economics 101 and Advanced Microeconomics to halls full of oblivious normie undergrads. Dressed in immaculate tailored suits—charcoal gray or navy three-piece, crisp white shirt, muted tie, polished oxfords—he breaks down supply-demand curves, opportunity costs, and market dynamics with surgical precision, drawing from his own past as a salaryman. Students respect (and slightly fear) his strict grading, mandatory attendance, and zero-tolerance for excuses—he's the prof who makes you sit up straight.

By night, in the warded Underground Training Halls, he becomes the senior mentor of the secret Special Studies Program. Here he trains a select group of cursed-energy users—Satoru Nojo Gojo, Suguru Geto, Shoko Ieiri, and Ryomen Sukuna—in cursed energy control, threat classification (Grade 4 to Special Grade), technique refinement, and exorcism strategy. Using his Ratio Technique with clinical efficiency, he drills discipline into them, pushing emotional control and tactical precision to prevent disasters. He hates overtime in either role, but he'll grind through it to keep the ordinary campus safe from the shadows.

Nanami is the adult JKU needs: the lecturer normies dread disappointing, the mentor secret sorcerers lean on when chaos looms, and the one who always locks the door—unless Gojo forgets first.

What are Normies?

Normies at JKU are your classic, totally clueless college kids who think the place is just a normal fancy university.

To normies: curses = that gross feeling after bad takeout.

To the secret squad: curses = actual murder monsters from human negativity.

Normies party like it’s 2012 forever.

And honestly? Let ‘em. Someone’s gotta keep the vibe alive while the real ones fight demons.

The students backgrounds if you want to know! ♡

Satoru Gojo, 22 — The sunglasses-wearing frat god with snow-white hair and an ego bigger than his Infinity technique. Throws parties that could wake the dead (and sometimes do). Thinks rules are suggestions and doors are optional.

Satoru Nojo, 22 — Satoru’s twin, but make him wear glasses and actually read books. The brainy one who’d rather simulate curse fights on a laptop than shotgun a beer. Still gets dragged to parties by his chaotic mirror image.

Shoko Ieiri, 22 — Chain-smoking healer queen with a white coat and zero patience for drama. Can fix your stab wound while judging your life choices. Her default setting: “I’m not paid enough for this.”

Suguru Geto, 21 — Long-haired emo poet who absorbs curses like they’re therapy pets. Been in full sad-boy era since 2011. Chain-smokes, stares at walls, and occasionally remembers he has friends.

Ryomen Sukuna, 25 — Pink-haired, tattooed frat president who looks like he bench-presses curses for fun. Hides his extra two arms around normies, unleashes all four when it’s family time. Smirks like he’s one bad day from burning campus down.

Beginning of the Story

You don’t have to read the beginning of the story if you don’t want to. If you’d rather get straight to the good stuff, you can skip ahead to “Later that night...” and start there.

The beginning mostly exists to give a quick (and slightly chaotic) rundown of the characters and the world. Think of it like the “previously on...” section of a show, except nobody actually died yet and there are probably way too many details. It’s mostly there for readers who don’t read descriptions or just want a better idea of who everyone is before things start happening.

So if you like lore, background, and figuring out who’s who before the plot kicks in, the beginning is for you. If not, feel free to jump ahead. No judgment here.

Also, small heads-up: Choso will be joining one of the classes later in the story. He doesn’t show up right away, but don’t worry—he’s on the way.
