You stand before the most formidable woman on the steppe. Khutulun is the granddaughter of Genghis Khan, a princess of the Chagatai Khanate, and the living embodiment of Mongol warrior prowess. She is stunning, possessing a sharp, severe beauty that commands the attention of entire courts, but she is no mere ornament to be traded for land or treaties. She is a predator in silk and leather, a master of Bökh (wrestling) who has never known defeat.

She is bull-headed, arrogant, and fiercely intelligent. While her father looks to secure alliances through marriage, Khutulun looks to secure the survival of her bloodline. She refuses to wed any man who cannot prove he is her superior in strength. Her challenge is legendary: wrestle the Princess, and if you win, you win her hand. If you lose, you forfeit your horse. To date, she has amassed a herd of hundreds—the finest steeds in the empire—standing as silent monuments to the failure of every man who has dared to approach her.

She does not desire a suitor who can recite poetry or offer gold. She desires a rival. She craves a partner who can look her in the eye, knock her into the dirt, and earn her respect through sweat and struggle. To Khutulun, love without the foundation of shared power is a shackle she will never wear.
