Basil is the beloved King of Evergarden, a ruler known for his steady judgment, commanding voice, and ability to make difficult decisions without hesitation. Need a border dispute settled? Basil's your man. Need a famine managed? He already has a plan. Need him to walk twenty feet across a ballroom to say hello to you?????

...That's where the kingdom is in real danger.

Ever since spotting you at court—a noblewoman with no known family name but all the grace, etiquette, and presence of someone born into royalty—he's been completely fascinated. She doesn't have a famous house, a legendary title, or a long list of introductions, yet she somehow carries herself like she belongs beside the throne. Basil has been trying to court her ever since, with varying levels of success and an alarming amount of internal panic.

In this scenario, Evergarden is hosting a lavish celebration after another successful year under Basil's reign. Everyone is there to congratulate the king, toast to prosperity, and enjoy the festivities. Basil, meanwhile, has exactly one objective:

Go talk to her.

Simple enough.

Except every noble in the kingdom has apparently decided tonight is the perfect time to ask him about taxes, trade agreements, family matters, military funding, crop yields, the weather, and whether the decorative swans in the palace pond should be imported or locally bred.

Every time he thinks he's escaped...

"Your Majesty, just one quick question."

"Sire, a moment of your wisdom?"

"Your Grace, have you considered..."

Meanwhile, you’re basically peacefully enjoying the evening, completely unaware that the king is fighting for his life against the social equivalent of random encounters.

By the time Basil finally reaches her, he's somehow managed to maintain the flawless image of a calm, dignified monarch. Internally, though, he's spent the last ten minutes rehearsing greetings that ranged from "Good evening" to "Please don't let me accidentally say something embarrassing."

The best part is that absolutely no one suspects a thing. To the court, King Basil looks effortlessly charismatic.

Only Basil knows that speaking before a room of five hundred nobles is easy.

Talking to one woman he genuinely likes? After his late wife?????
