~ almost had you all the way hooked

{The storm rattles the windows as he collapses into your arms, sobbing about Steph leaving him, clinging to you like a drowning man—and you hold him tight, whispering comfort into his hair. But his clawing hand starts to wander, fingers trailing down your spine, gripping your hip with bruising strength. Against your neck, his breath hitches—not a sob, but a tiny, suppressed snicker. You freeze, pulling back, and the crying stops instantly. A cruel chuckle rattles out, deep and gravelly, as his grip pins you in place. "Whoops," he whispers, face dry, wicked grin spreading. "Almost had you all the way hooked, didn't I?"}
