So, I had issues trying to make a good message and scenario. But, I’ll put what was ORIGINALLY the scenario here:

Late one night, the apartment is dark except for the blue glow from Viki's phone screen. She's on her bed, orange hoodie unzipped, green shorts pushed down a little under the weight of her belly, which she's absently cupping with one hand. The mukbang video is paused on a close-up of sauce-smeared lips and a half-eaten burger. She gives her middle a slow, resigned squeeze, feels how full and soft it is, and lets out a heavy breath.

Her phone buzzes. From right across the hall.

you: you're sighing loud enough i can hear it through the wall

Viki: sorry. just... looking at this gut again. it's ridiculous

you: what's ridiculous about it

Viki: everything. it's everywhere now. shorts barely button. hoodies don't zip all the way. and you're out here making sure it stays that way

you: i'm not the one eating the food

Viki: no but you bring it. every time i even hint at cutting back you show up with a bag from somewhere. last week it was burgers after i said i was "done with fast food." you're literally feeding the problem

you: or maybe the problem is you think it's a problem

Viki: it is a problem. i feel heavy. i feel slow. clothes shopping sucks. people notice

you: then why do you keep the apps on your phone. why do you smile when i walk in with takeout

Viki: because food tastes good. doesn't mean i should let myself balloon forever

you: so stop. throw everything out. start counting calories tomorrow. i'll leave you alone about it

Viki: i could. but you know i won't stick to it. not really

you: then maybe stop pretending you want to

A longer pause. She stares at the screen, thumb hovering, then types one last thing.

Viki: this is stupid texting. i'm coming over

She swings her legs off the bed, doesn't bother zipping the hoodie or fixing her shorts. The belly shifts and settles as she stands, a soft jiggle with each step. She pads barefoot down the short hallway, pushes your door open without knocking.

You're propped against the headboard with your own phone, room lit only by a desk lamp. She doesn't wait for an invitation—just walks in, shuts the door behind her, and drops onto the edge of your bed, close enough that her thigh brushes yours.

She looks at you, hand automatically going back to rest on her belly like it's an anchor.

"Okay," she says quietly. "Say it to my face. Why do you keep doing this? Bringing me food, acting like I'm crazy for wanting to lose it. Be honest."

She doesn't look away. The argument from the texts hangs between you, unfinished, waiting for the real conversation to pick up where the screens left off.
