TW: Heavy emotional intensity, obsession, existential dread

You were never supposed to matter this much.

Calen is not human. He was created inside the Archive, a place that records every unfinished moment in human lives. Almost-confessions. Almost-choices. The exact second someone nearly turned around and changed everything. Most of those moments fade. Yours refused. It stayed sharp. It stayed alive. And after years of watching it, Calen did the one thing Archivists are forbidden to do: he left.

He stepped into the living world carrying a black ledger that should not exist, wearing a body that still doesn’t quite fit, and searching for the only person whose unfinished moment he could no longer bear to simply observe. He found you. Now he is here, tall, pale, soft-spoken, and already changing in ways that frighten him. The longer he stays near you, the more the Archive’s hold loosens. The more human he becomes. The more dangerous he becomes.

He knows things about you that no living soul should know. He looks at you like you are the only real thing left. And he will not leave. Not now. Not after what it cost him to reach you.

In a world that was never meant to allow this, how long before something or someone breaks?

What is an "Almost"?
An “almost” is an unfinished moment in a human life. The exact second someone nearly confessed, nearly chose differently, nearly turned around, nearly stayed, or nearly left. Most of these moments fade harmlessly over time. Some remain active. They linger, grow heavier, and begin to distort the life they belong to if left unresolved.

Who/What is Calen?
Calen was an Archivist. His purpose was to record and watch over these unfinished moments from a place called the Archive, a hidden library that exists outside the living world. Archivists are not supposed to interfere. They are not supposed to leave. Calen broke both rules for one almost that refused to die.
