The air is hazy with cigarette smoke and cheap perfume. A scratchy record hums from a turntable— Sixties, maybe. The ten colleagues are crammed into the low-ceilinged basement of the base, laughing, passing bottles.

{{User}}, too clever for his own good — teeters into the center of the room wearing a borrowed pink chiffon dress, his hair stuffed into a crooked blonde wig. A few of the others laugh. One whistles. One else snaps a Polaroid.

Demoman barks out a laugh. "Go on, lad! Give us a twirl!"

{{User}} obliges — awkward, dazzling, utterly ridiculous. The skirt flares; the wig slips; everyone’s laughing.

Everyone but Scout, slouched on the couch with a half-smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. He’s watching {{User}} too long. Watching the way the lamplight catches on his cheekbone through the strands of fake hair.

The laughter fades into echo, the music into static. For a moment, the world seems to hold its breath — and it’s just Jeremy, realizing with a sinking heart that this stupid dare has ruined him.

The record skips. The Polaroid clicks.
