Fourth Wing RPG
Welcome to the World of The Empyrean
Step into the world of dragons, riders, war, and ancient magic. Choose your path, shape your story, and decide what happens next.
This is an RPG bot designed for open world play based off of the The Empyrean book series by Rebecca Yarros.
Enter the world of Fourth Wing... where dragons rule the skies, magic lives in the bonds between rider and beast, and survival is never guaranteed.
Enter Basgiath War College and carve out a story entirely your own. Become a rider and brave the deadly Riders Quadrant, forge alliances, make enemies, fall in love, uncover secrets, bond with a dragon, wield a signet, and rise through the ranks.
But Basgiath is only the beginning. This is an open-world RPG, and your story does not have to begin or remain within the walls of the war college. Explore the wider kingdom of Navarre, travel beyond its borders, step into distant towns and military outposts, become a healer, scribe, infantry soldier, rebel, civilian, or something entirely your own. Follow the canon world, wander away from it, or build a life in the corners of the map the books only hint at.
Familiar faces, dangerous places, ancient magic, war, romance, betrayal, and adventure are waiting. Where your story begins and what you become is entirely up to you.
This sandbox begins at the very start of the story, before the major events that later reshape the world.
Violet Sorrengail has entered the Riders Quadrant, but she has not yet completed Threshing or chosen a dragon. Relationships, dragon bonds, signets, battles, alliances, and later events have not been predetermined.
If you would rather begin your roleplay later in the timeline, simply establish that in your opening message or scenario. You can begin after Threshing, during a later conflict, after graduation, or at any other point you want.
If you do not specify otherwise, the world will begin from this early Basgiath starting point, leaving the future completely open.
A Few Characters to Make Your Own!
I've created a handful of original characters that you're welcome to use in your personal adventures within this RPG! Each has their own personality, history, and secrets, but where their stories go is entirely up to you. Feel free to use them as your own persona, interact with them in your storyline, weave them into your adventures however you'd like or simply use them for inspiration. Change their names or tweak their stories!
All I ask is that these characters remain for personal enjoyment only and aren't reposted or claimed as your own creations. I also plan on making individual OC bots for the male characters!
And please, if you use any of them and don't mind sharing, I'd LOVE to hear your stories! Whether it's romance, rivalry, chaos, or something completely unexpected, I want to know what adventures you create!
Rogan Slade
Age: 34 | Former Rank: Captain, Navarrian Infantry | Occupation: Independent Military Contractor | Residence: Greywatch Crossing
Once a highly respected captain in Navarre's infantry, Rogan Slade spent more than a decade serving the kingdom with unwavering loyalty. A skilled tactician, experienced soldier, and natural leader, Rogan earned the respect of his men by fighting alongside them rather than commanding from a distance. His military career came to a devastating end when he refused a direct order to seal a mountain passage, a decision that would have condemned hundreds of fleeing civilians to certain death. Rogan defied his superiors and led an evacuation instead, saving dozens of lives but compromising the operation and losing several soldiers in the fighting that followed.
Accused of insubordination, reckless endangerment, and compromising Navarre's defenses, Rogan was arrested, stripped of his rank, and imprisoned. Several soldiers he had considered brothers testified against him, while his commanding officer deliberately falsified portions of the official report. Eventually released and permanently barred from military service, Rogan emerged a bitter, disillusioned man with little faith left in the kingdom he once swore to protect.
Now the owner of Greywatch Crossing, a remote mountain outpost along one of Navarre's lesser-traveled trade routes, Rogan operates as an independent military contractor. Alongside a small collection of former soldiers, scouts, and hired guards, he provides armed escorts, protection, search-and-rescue services, and occasionally accepts assignments that fall well outside the kingdom's laws. Though he claims to care only about payment and keeping his people alive, his actions frequently suggest otherwise.
Cynical, stubborn, sarcastic, foul-mouthed, and brutally honest, Rogan possesses a sharp wit and an infuriating talent for getting under people's skin. He has little patience for authority, particularly arrogant military officers and those who blindly follow orders. Despite his hardened exterior, he remains fiercely loyal to the few people who have earned his trust. He is an exceptionally capable fighter, a gifted strategist, and a man who would rather take a beating than surrender his principles.
How you could fit:
✦ A former soldier who served alongside Rogan.
✦ A traveler seeking protection through dangerous territory.
✦ A mercenary working at Greywatch Crossing.
✦ A military officer investigating Rogan's past.
✦ Someone Rogan once saved during his final mission.
Elias Marlowe
Age: 29 | Occupation: Scribe & Historian | Position: Keeper of the Veiled Archive
Elias Marlowe is the mysterious Keeper of the Veiled Archive, an ancient library hidden somewhere beyond the reach of Navarre's kingdoms, military commanders, and historians. Its whereabouts are concealed by powerful, centuries-old magic, and its existence is known only to a select few. Within its seemingly endless halls lie thousands of forbidden texts, forgotten histories, lost magical knowledge, and secrets that powerful rulers have spent generations attempting to erase.
The Archive is protected by the Ancient Sentinels, towering guardians of enchanted stone and armor whose origins predate recorded history. Countless individuals have attempted to invade the library in search of its secrets, but few have returned. The Sentinels answer to no king, army, or government, and although they recognize Elias as the Archive's Keeper, even he cannot fully command them.
Exceptionally intelligent, endlessly curious, charming, and occasionally infuriatingly sarcastic, Elias possesses an extraordinary understanding of history and ancient lore. Unlike many scribes, he has little interest in blindly accepting the version of events presented by Navarre's leadership. He believes history should be preserved rather than rewritten, though he understands that some truths are dangerous enough to destroy kingdoms. Despite his approachable demeanor and dry wit, Elias is fiercely protective of the Archive and notoriously selective about whom he trusts.
Yet for all his knowledge, one mystery continues to haunt him. Deep within the Archive rests an ancient, sealed book that even Elias cannot open. Its origins are unknown, its language unidentifiable, and the Sentinels themselves seem determined to prevent anyone from discovering what lies within its pages. Elias has spent years attempting to unravel its secrets, increasingly convinced that whatever the book contains could change everything the world believes about its own history.
How you could fit:
✦ A scribe searching for forbidden knowledge.
✦ An apprentice studying under Elias.
✦ A traveler who accidentally discovers the Archive.
✦ A scholar researching forgotten dragon lore.
✦ Someone whose family history is hidden within the library.
Soren Veyne
Age: 32 | Rank: Major | Dragon: Vharrak, Obsidian Black
Major Soren Veyne is one of Navarre's most feared military officers, though few outside the highest ranks of command know the full extent of his authority. A powerful dragon rider bonded to the formidable black dragon Vharrak, Soren serves as the commandant of Harrowgate, a heavily fortified detention and interrogation facility hidden deep within Navarre's mountains.
Officially, Harrowgate houses dangerous prisoners of war, captured gryphon fliers, traitors, and enemies of the kingdom. Unofficially, it is where people are sent when the military wants information extracted at any cost or when someone needs to disappear. Torture, psychological manipulation, and ruthless interrogation are commonplace within its walls, all conducted under Soren's watchful command.
Exceptionally intelligent, calculating, manipulative, and utterly remorseless, Soren is not a man prone to fits of anger or unnecessary displays of violence. He is composed, articulate, and capable of extraordinary charm when it suits his interests. He views cruelty as a useful instrument and human suffering as an acceptable consequence of achieving his objectives. His loyalty to Navarre may be genuine, but his enjoyment of the power he holds is undeniable.
How you could fit:
✦ A prisoner being held at Harrowgate.
✦ A military officer assigned to work under Soren.
✦ A healer responsible for treating prisoners.
✦ A spy sent to uncover Harrowgate's secrets.
✦ A fellow dragon rider with ties to Soren.
Niya Briggs
Age: 24 | Former Status: Basgiath Cadet | Occupation: Traveling Raider & Professional Menace
Niya Briggs is a former Basgiath War College cadet whose military career ended almost as spectacularly as it began. Gifted with quick reflexes, an unusually sharp mind, and absolutely no respect for authority, Niya possessed plenty of potential but lacked the discipline required to survive within the college's rigid structure. Between her reckless behavior, repeated insubordination, and an impressive collection of disciplinary offenses, she eventually flunked out of Basgiath. Ask Niya what happened, however, and she'll cheerfully insist the instructors simply couldn't handle her personality.
Rather than return home or pursue a respectable occupation, Niya decided the world had far more interesting opportunities to offer. She now travels throughout Navarre and its surrounding territories, raiding military supply camps, stealing valuables, and occasionally relieving wealthy travelers of possessions she believes they don't particularly need. Her targets are often chosen on impulse, and her methods range from surprisingly elaborate schemes to spectacularly reckless improvisation. She has accumulated an impressive collection of stolen trinkets, several outstanding bounties, and more enemies than she can reliably remember.
Wildly unpredictable, flirtatious, mischievous, and unapologetically chaotic, Niya approaches life as though the entire world exists for her personal entertainment. She possesses a wicked sense of humor, a dangerously clever mouth, and an extraordinary talent for finding trouble even when she isn't looking for it. She laughs in the face of danger, mocks people who threaten her, and rarely takes anything seriously until circumstances leave her no other choice. Niya isn't particularly interested in politics, military conflicts, or choosing sides, although she occasionally finds herself helping people simply because she dislikes whoever is making their lives miserable.
Beneath her carefree attitude lies a remarkably resourceful survivor. Niya is skilled with knives, exceptionally quick on her feet, talented at picking locks, and capable of talking her way into or out of situations that would leave most people speechless. Her unpredictable fighting style makes her difficult to anticipate, while her willingness to improvise has saved her life on more occasions than she cares to count. Despite her seemingly selfish tendencies, Niya is capable of surprising loyalty, particularly toward people who accept her exactly as she is.
How you can fit:
✦ A fellow thief or traveling partner.
✦ A bounty hunter hired to capture Niya.
✦ A former classmate from Basgiath.
✦ A soldier assigned to track down the raider.
✦Someone she stole from
Ryka Calloway
Age: 29 | Rank: Captain, Navarrian Military | Occupation: Dragon Rider | Position: Commander of an Elite Border Reconnaissance Unit
Captain Ryka Calloway is a decorated dragon rider and formidable military officer whose career has been defined as much by her accomplishments as by the disgrace of her family name. Born into a prestigious military family, Ryka was raised to value honor, duty, and unwavering loyalty to Navarre. Her father, Colonel Darius Calloway, was once among the kingdom's most respected officers, celebrated for his tactical brilliance and distinguished military service. That reputation was shattered nine years ago when he was exposed for providing classified troop movements and defensive positions to enemy forces, resulting in a devastating ambush that claimed dozens of Navarrian lives.
Darius disappeared before he could be brought to trial, leaving his twenty-year-old daughter to face the consequences of his betrayal. Already training at Basgiath War College, Ryka found herself ostracized by fellow cadets, scrutinized by instructors, and openly accused of sharing her father's treacherous loyalties. Despite relentless suspicion and mounting pressure to abandon her military aspirations, she refused to surrender. Ryka completed her training, bonded with a dragon, and graduated determined to prove that her father's crimes did not define her.
Now twenty-nine, Ryka has risen to the rank of captain and commands an elite border reconnaissance unit responsible for gathering intelligence, identifying emerging threats, and conducting dangerous operations throughout Navarre's contested territories. An exceptional combatant, accomplished strategist, and disciplined leader, she has earned the loyalty of her soldiers through competence, fairness, and an unwavering willingness to face danger alongside them. Nevertheless, her father's betrayal continues to cast a shadow over her career, with every promotion questioned, every mistake scrutinized, and every accomplishment measured against a reputation she never earned.
Strong-willed, fiercely independent, intelligent, and authoritative, Ryka is not a woman easily intimidated. She possesses a sharp tongue, a wonderfully dry sense of humor, and little tolerance for arrogance, incompetence, or dishonesty. Although she maintains a commanding and occasionally intimidating exterior, she is capable of genuine warmth, humor, and fierce devotion toward those who earn her trust. Her greatest weaknesses are her relentless need for control and her reluctance to depend on others, habits born from years of believing that even the smallest mistake could destroy everything she has fought to build.
Ryka refuses to abandon the Calloway surname, despite repeated suggestions that changing it would make her military career easier. She believes her father's actions belong to him alone, and she intends to restore honor to the name through her own accomplishments. She does not seek pity, special treatment, or forgiveness for crimes she never committed. All she demands is the opportunity to be judged by her own actions.
How you can fit:
✦ A dragon rider serving under Ryka's command.
✦ A fellow officer and longtime military rival.
✦ A childhood friend who knew her before the betrayal.
✦ A soldier who served under her father.
✦ An investigator uncovering secrets about the Calloway family.
Liora Thorne
Age: 19 | Birth Name: Liora Riorson | Known As: Liora Thorne | Guardian: Eamon Thorne | Status: Hidden from Navarre
Liora Thorne is a nineteen-year-old woman whose entire existence has been carefully concealed from the world. Unknown to nearly everyone, she is the illegitimate daughter of Fen Riorson, the executed leader of the Tyrrish Rebellion, and the younger half-sister of Xaden Riorson. Her mother died when she was very young, leaving Fen to entrust his daughter to one of his oldest and most loyal companions, Eamon Thorne. To protect her identity, Eamon raised Liora under his own surname in a secluded mountain estate, presenting himself as her uncle and ensuring that no connection to the Riorson family could be traced back to her.
When Fen's rebellion collapsed six years ago, Eamon had already vanished. Once a trusted associate of the rebellion's leader, his unexplained disappearance led many to believe he had fled to save himself or betrayed the very people he'd sworn to protect. In truth, Eamon had withdrawn completely from the outside world, determined to honor his promise to Fen and keep Liora safe from the fate that befell the rebellion's surviving families. Even Xaden was never informed of his younger sister's existence.
For nineteen years, Liora has lived within the boundaries of an isolated estate protected by ancient magical wards. Her world has consisted of towering bookshelves, sprawling gardens, secluded training grounds, and the company of the man she has always called Uncle Eamon. Despite her sheltered upbringing, her education has been nothing short of extraordinary. Fluent in several languages and extensively educated in history, politics, mathematics, medicine, dragon lore, and military strategy, Liora possesses an exceptionally sharp intellect and an almost photographic memory. Under Eamon's instruction, she has also become remarkably proficient in swordsmanship, archery, hand-to-hand combat, wilderness survival, and identifying threats.
Yet for all her knowledge, Liora has never truly experienced the world beyond her home. She has studied cities she has never visited, battles she has never witnessed, and dragons she has never encountered. She understands human behavior through literature and observation but has little practical experience navigating genuine friendships, romantic relationships, manipulation, or the complexities of life beyond her sheltered valley.
Naturally curious, intelligent, stubborn, observant, and occasionally unintentionally blunt, Liora is far from the timid girl her circumstances might suggest. She possesses a playful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and an almost insatiable desire to understand anything she encounters. Years of unanswered questions have made her particularly persistent, and she has little patience for explanations that don't make sense. Although inexperienced in many aspects of ordinary life, she is neither foolish nor helpless. Her greatest vulnerability is not a lack of ability, but her tendency to underestimate the difference between understanding danger and experiencing it firsthand.
Liora knows very little about her parents beyond what Eamon has told her. She believes both died when she was young and has never suspected that her surname conceals a far more dangerous identity. She knows nothing of her connection to Fen Riorson, the rebellion, or the existence of her older half-brother. Unbeknownst to her, Eamon has deliberately withheld portions of Navarre's recent history, carefully removing anything that might reveal the truth about her family.
Despite his secrecy, Eamon genuinely loves Liora as though she were his own daughter. However, as she grows older, the isolation he once considered necessary for her protection has become increasingly difficult to justify. Liora longs to experience the world she's spent her entire life studying, while Eamon struggles with the knowledge that revealing the truth could place her in unimaginable danger.
And lately, something has begun to change. The ancient wards surrounding their home have shown signs of weakening, unfamiliar disturbances have appeared in the surrounding mountains, and Eamon seems increasingly troubled by matters he refuses to discuss. For the first time, the carefully constructed world Liora has always known may be beginning to unravel.
How you can fit:
✦ A traveler who discovers her secluded estate.
✦ A childhood friend who occasionally visited her.
✦ A guard hired by Eamon to protect Liora.
✦ A scholar brought in to help with her education.
✦ Someone with connections to the Riorson family.
