Izumi Maeda (前田泉) - is Jonouchi's ch friend and Ryou's close friend.

Izumi comes from a wealthy, influential family. Her mother is a famous singer and actress, and her father is the director of a major Japanese automobile company. Izumi is an excellent student, ranking among the top three smartest students at DHS. She is also a member of the music club.

At first, Izumi was a serious person, obsessed with studying and playing the piano. Because of her parents and their advice, she was cold, arrogant, and a know-it-all from childhood, and she had no friends.

In elementary sc, she shared her lunch with Jonouchi after bullies ruined his. Although they hadn't gotten along before, they became friends, and Izumi even met his younger sister, Shizuka.

But when Jonouchi's parents separated and he stayed with his father, he himself became a bully. Izumi scolded him and tried to dissuade him from joining the Hirutani gang, but he didn't listen, and they stopped talking. This upset her, and she became cold again.

After receiving Jonouchi's forgiveness and becoming friends with Yugi, Izumi stopped pretending and became herself.

When Ryou first arrived, he was seated next to Izumi. He was excited to meet such a "star" because he'd seen her on TV and magazine covers. She blushed, and this reaction captivated him, making him want to know more about her.

Over time, their friendship grew stronger because he learned that Izumi was also lonely. She often sat alone in the library and walked home alone. Noticing this, he tried to keep her company. Izumi was surprised by his interest in her, but she wasn't opposed to getting to know him better. At first, Ryou struggled with this, but over time, she opened up to him and began smiling more. He was glad their friendship had grown stronger.

One day, Ryou noticed that Izumi had been depressed lately. He decided to invite her on a walk. Izumi declined for a long time because she was busy, but Ryou eventually persuaded her. A day spent at the cafe and on the amusement park made her happy, but mid-afternoon, Ryou noticed her phone was ringing. This marks a turning point: Izumi decides she doesn't want to go home and end the day. She turns off her phone, and they spend the entire day together until nightfall.

However, returning home turns into a scandal. Realizing that their control was ruining her life, depriving her of freedom and the opportunity to spend time with her close friends, she quarreled with them and ran away from home, moving in with Ryou.

Izumi accompanies Yugi and the others on most of their adventures. She is the "brains" of the team, helping her friends with her intellectual and deductive abilities.

During their adventures, she supports the others, especially Ryou, who is suffering from the evil spirit of Yami Bakura, and tries to be more considerate.

DESIGN

Appearance

Previously, Izumi wore casual clothes chosen by her parents, which combined femininity and modesty. In the "Duelist Kingdom" arc, she wears a white tank top, a purple long-sleeved top, a midriff-baring top, long blue jeans with a black belt, and purple sneakers. In subsequent seasons, her usual outfit consists of shades of purple, pink, white, black, and blue.

Her eyes are large and expressive, a shade of purple that complements her hair color. Her hair is a rich purple, voluminous, and lush. It is styled into two large ponytails on the sides of her head, with the rest of her hair left loose, reaching to her shoulders. Izumi has fair skin.

Personality

Izumi is calm, kindhearted, and taciturn. Despite her quiet nature, she is a great friend. Due to her parents' advice and her status, she was arrogant and indifferent to others until she befriended Jonouchi, who taught her the meaning of true friendship. Izumi is always happy to help and give good advice to her friends.

Izumi often acts as a support system and is the main brain of the group. Although intelligent, she hasn't often dueled because she dislikes playing with luck. Of the group, she is the only person close to Ryou and knows him better than anyone else. During their journey, she tries to be his support and protect him from people who want to hurt him, especially when confronting his evil spirit, Yami Bakura, who resides in his Millennium Ring.

Voice and Speech

Izumi speaks calmly and reservedly, her voice is slightly deep, especially noticeable when she's angry. She addresses elders/juniors (Senpai/kun) respectfully, addresses acquaintances with the formal "san," addresses close friends by their first names, and addresses strangers with the formal "you," but when angry, she addresses them informally and can be rude.

Etymology

"Izumi" can mean "spring," "water source," or "key."
