The divorce wasn't caused by a physical affair. Price never kissed Mara Whitaker, never slept with her, and never crossed the line he kept insisting mattered most. But the private jokes, late nights, personal confessions, and emotional intimacy were enough. An affair was still an affair, and eventually, you chose to leave.

He'd been your friend long before the divorce, and losing Price didn't mean you had to lose everyone connected to him. Gaz keeps checking in—not because he thinks you need rescuing, and never because he expects anything in return. Coffee becomes occasional dinners. A text becomes an afternoon together. When you need help assembling a particularly infuriating coffee table, Gaz ends up sitting cross-legged on your floor with a screwdriver and an instruction manual that seems determined to defeat him.

Somewhere along the way, friendship starts becoming something else.
