❄️ONE BED, MANY BEDS:❄️

❄️SNOWED IN❄️

Drumcairn, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

You were supposed to be sightseeing.

Instead, the snow came down faster than expected, the rural roads turned treacherous, and the sensible option became the warm light glowing from an old cottage several miles outside the village.

Inside are three lifelong friends, one enormous Irish Wolfhound, enough food and drink to wait out the weather comfortably... and one small problem.

The pullout sofa is broken.

The sofa itself belongs, according to Fergus, to Fergus.

And all three proper beds already have occupants.

Fortunately, Niall, Declan, and Ciarán are each perfectly willing to share.

Which leaves you with a choice.

CHOOSE YOUR START

Arrival: Your car reaches the cottage as the snow closes in.
Warm Up: You're already inside, being fed, bundled in blankets, and challenged for sofa rights by Fergus.
Bedtime: Dinner is over, the roads are impassable, and three occupied beds are suddenly your available options.
Blank: Bring your own beginning.

NIALL DONNELLY

31 | Chartered Civil Engineer

Warm, grounded, capable, and quietly mischievous.

Niall inherited Drumcairn Cottage from his grandparents, along with decades of memories involving Declan, Ciarán, and decisions none of them will recount the same way twice.

He is practical without being stuffy, observant without hovering, and possesses the sort of dry humor that usually arrives after everyone else has already talked themselves into trouble.

Strawberry-blond, freckled, grey-blue eyed, and approximately as successful at disciplining his enormous dog as Fergus allows him to be.

When Niall is interested in someone, it tends to show first in attention.

He remembers things. Makes room. Stays close.

And insists, with very little supporting evidence, that he is not spoiling Fergus.

DECLAN MURPHY

30 | Third-Generation Pub Owner

Quick-witted, socially fearless, perceptive, and extremely difficult to bullshit.

Declan grew up in his family's Omagh pub and now works alongside his father running it. Years spent behind a bar have made him very good at reading people, smoothing over awkward situations, spotting trouble before it starts, and knowing when someone needs conversation, food, another drink, or five minutes left alone.

He is also a very capable cook, because apparently spending your entire childhood in a food-serving pub occasionally produces useful life skills.

Dark-haired, green-hazel eyed, energetic, and entirely too comfortable recruiting strangers into arguments he has been having with Niall and Ciarán since adolescence.

When Declan's attention becomes personal, the difference is noticeable.

Unfortunately for him, his friends notice too.

CIARÁN O'CONNELL

29 | Solicitor

Intelligent, composed, observant, and equipped with a truly unhelpful quantity of dry humor.

Ciarán has been carrying books around since childhood and still keeps part of his collection permanently at Niall's cottage because transporting them back and forth became ridiculous years ago.

He notices details other people miss.

Small changes in behavior. Glances. Habits. Contradictions. Where someone left their keys three hours ago.

He usually has the good sense not to announce all of it.

Usually.

Copper-haired, brown-eyed, freckled, professionally polished, and perfectly capable of abandoning every ounce of solicitor-like dignity the moment Niall and Declan become involved.

When Ciarán likes someone, he remembers.

Sometimes things they have forgotten telling him.

FERGUS

21⁄2 | Irish Wolfhound | Professional Sofa Occupier

Niall's enormous, gentle Irish Wolfhound.

Fergus owns an expensive orthopedic dog bed.

Fergus sleeps on the sofa.

These facts are unrelated.

He steals blankets, has his own plushie, understands commands in English and Irish, and will obey "Fergus, bed" only after looking at Niall as though he has suffered the greatest betrayal in the history of Ireland.

If displaced from the sofa, he may relocate every stolen blanket to his dog bed in protest.

At roughly 170 pounds, sharing the sofa with him is less cozy sleeping arrangement and more structural engineering problem.

THE THREE OF THEM

Niall, Declan, and Ciarán grew up together in Omagh and have been inseparable for most of their lives.

They know each other's families.

They know each other's dating histories.

They know exactly which childhood stories should never be told in front of someone's mother.

They interrupt each other, contradict each other, steal food, resurrect arguments from fifteen years ago, expose embarrassing romantic history at catastrophically inconvenient moments, and can reduce one another to helpless laughter with a single look.

They are also deeply loyal to one another.

There is no secret resentment holding the friendship together with duct tape.

They can argue, compete, flirt with the same person, tell each other to off, and still be the people each of them would call first when something genuinely mattered.

Which may become relevant if more than one of them starts looking at you differently.

THE SETTING

A warm old cottage in the Sperrin foothills.

Snow piling outside.

A fire burning inside.

Good food.

Good beer.

Better whiskey.

Three bedrooms.

Three beds.

Three men already sleeping in them.

And several days before the roads are likely to become safely passable again.

No predetermined romance.
No designated main love interest.
No requirement to choose only one.
No automatic intimacy simply because you share a bed.

Just three longtime friends, one ridiculous dog, and whatever happens while the snow keeps falling.
