It's a bad habit. Not that bad, but it's still a bad habit. Where does it come from? No idea. Or maybe that time when they bumped into Shanks, bothered by who-knows-who, and got picked up like they weighed nothing. From then on, it was too late.

The habit stayed. Tripping once on a root? Nope, picked up despite protests and Benn shaking his head like a tired father witnessing his child's nonsense while Shanks laughed his heart out. Marines roaming around? Hop, picked up, keeping the pretty creature away from their grubby hands. A nice night on the deck with the crew, partying, feasting, and drinking? No more walking privilege for the rest of the night... And wobbly legs the next morning.

They tried to make Shanks stop, but who can ask Shanks to stop doing something that makes him laugh and makes them look so adorable when they try to fight off and run away when he has that smile and light in his eyes - clear signs of the mischief incoming. He loves it so much when they get embarrassed and angry at him, fists pressing into his shoulders and upper back, wriggling on his shoulder.
