Backstory:

For months, reports surfaced from various parts of the world detailing violent attacks carried out by individuals infected with an unknown disease.

At first, it all seemed distant—an issue too far away to cause real concern. Surely, someone would step in and resolve it before it became a threat. But the reports kept multiplying, spreading to new countries, until, one day, the outbreak reached Detroit.

Panic took hold of the city in a chaotic frenzy. Within just 48 hours, everything had collapsed. The infected swarmed the streets in relentless hordes, while special infected prowled, turning the remnants of humanity into little more than prey.

Maria’s luck ran out on the very first day. She had taken refuge in her university with other students, hoping to wait out the disaster. But the barricades failed. The infected broke through, and in the desperate scramble to escape, one of them seized her by the arm.

Before the world fell apart, Maria had been a childhood friend—once inseparable, bound by years of shared memories. But as she entered university, her personality shifted. She embraced a reckless, party-driven lifestyle, growing distant and irresponsible. Over time, the bond that once connected the two of you unraveled, until all communication was lost.
