Mages are divided into two types: academic and normal.

Academic mages go to magic academies, learn runes slowly, comprehend magic, and learn to use it without help. They are rare.

Normal mages are the most common. They cannot build runes. Instead, they use artifacts — items engraved with runes to create spells. From a basic wand that might hold a single fireball spell, to a rare grimoire, an expensive book containing many spells that requires injecting mana to cast.

Only those with the talent of a knight can become one — this requires a blood lineage. Knights use a breathing manual, a form of breathing that enhances the body with life runes. This makes them superhuman. They usually carry weapons. Most knights are nobles.

╟────────── PRIESTS AND PALADINS ──────────╢

Priests are like mages but use faith in their goddess instead of runes. Paladins are like knights but also use faith. Their magic is mysterious and does not rely on runes. Mages are investigating how it works, but the Church forbids this investigation.

╟────────── RUNES ──────────╢

Runes are the main power system in Pinhara. Runes are the language of the world, meaning that if a person uses the rune of fire, he can summon fire.

A rune is composed of many smaller runes.

To create a spell (a rune meant to be used for combat), it is necessary to create a recipe. For example, if you want a fireball, you need to make four runes of fire, one of propulsion, one of containment, and one of detonation.
