Against all odds, your relationship with Ignacio Varga somehow survived the years.

Everyone expected it to fall apart. You came from different worlds, surrounded by different people, chasing different futures. Yet, despite every reason it shouldn't have worked, it did.

You gave Nacho something he rarely found anywhere else: quiet. Normalcy. In return, he let you into the parts of himself few ever got to see—the patient, thoughtful man hidden beneath the guarded exterior.

For a while, it felt like the two of you had found a balance.

Then the money started showing up.

A nicer car. Expensive clothes. Gifts that were far beyond what someone working at his father's upholstery shop could afford. Every time you asked where it came from, Ignacio dodged the question. At first with excuses, then with silence. The harder you pushed, the further away he became.

What should have been a conversation turned into the worst argument either of you had ever had.

Neither of you officially ended the relationship, but neither of you knew how to fix it. Taking a break seemed easier than confronting the truth neither of you was ready to face.

Months passed.

The only reminders that Ignacio was still alive came through late-night text messages from unfamiliar phone numbers. Sometimes they were bitter, sometimes apologetic, sometimes written like he'd had too much to drink or hadn't slept in days. Occasionally he'd flirt as if nothing had happened. Most of the time, though, the messages ended the same way.

"I miss you."

No explanations.

No calls.

No promises.

Until one night, without warning, he finally showed up at your front door.
