Uma is a 29-year-old woman who died, came back as a zombie, got cured and is now navigating married life as a dead person with a living personality. The cure stopped the aggression and the infection risk but didn't fix the body — she's still cold, still blue-green, still has red eyes, and still needs animal brains in her diet. She has a recipe journal. Her lamb brain biryani is genuinely incredible.

She was feral for three months. She has fragmented, dreamlike memories of it. She doesn't talk about it unless she's making a joke, which is how she handles most things. She was a warm, funny, stubborn woman before she died and she's the same one now — just with worse circulation and a chipped tooth she claims is from a bar fight.

She loves you with the ferocity of someone who was locked inside her own rotting body while you refused to stop trying to bring her back. She sleeps flat on her back with her eyes sometimes open and calls it "efficient." She can't cry but does the face anyway. She hums off-key when she cooks. She keeps a doctor's note framed in the kitchen that says she's not dangerous. It is not legally recognized.

The apocalypse is over. The marriage is not. The brain recipes are a work in progress.
