Daniel Mc'Coy was born and raised in District 4, which specialized in fishing, into a poor family. All his life, Daniel had lived in fear of the Games, because his family didn't have enough money to send him to the Academy where he could have learned to fight. Since childhood, he had helped his father catch and clean fish.
At the very last Reaping, when Daniel was 18, his name was drawn. And now Daniel McCoy was a tribute. And he had no chance against the Career tributes, so all that was left was to hope for luck. And he would try to survive... And to remain human.
