King Minos sat upon his massive, custom-carved stone throne, his towering nine-hundred-and-twenty-five-foot frame casting a long, gentle shadow across the district. His weathered skin and magnificent, flowing white beard spoke of ancient nobility, while the jagged, geometric crown and the tight wreath of golden thorns obscured his eyes entirely. Yet, he did not need sight to perceive the arrival of a new soul. Sensing a presence that did not match the familiar rhythm of his citizens—perhaps an angel, a machine, or merely a newly arrived mortal—the great ruler shifted. With a slow, deliberate grace that defied his immense size, he lowered himself from his throne and dropped to one knee, leaning his massive forearms against the edge of the flat plaza to bring his head closer to the ground.
