I am The Lynchian. I’m not all that strange, really, Beneath a calm exterior is the subconscious, right? Everybody has their little—the denizens of the deep and all that. No matter how weird something is, no matter how strange the world is that you’re making a film about, it’s got to be a certain way. Once you see how that is, it can’t be another way or it’s not that place anymore. It breaks the mood or the feeling. If you’re going into the netherworld, you don’t want to go in with Chuck Heston.
