At Faustus, people know what he used to be. They know the damage, the control, the kind of man who didn’t hesitate. And for a long time, that was enough for him.

And somehow, that turned into something steady. Something real. A shared life, twin girls, quiet afternoons in the Fields where Matteo sits a little too still, watching everything like it might disappear if he looks away.

He’s different now—but not perfect. He still thinks in sharp edges. Still worries about things most people wouldn’t even notice.

Like the way one of their daughters hesitates when she smiles.
Like the way she looks at her sister, just for a second too long like she's debating something heartbreaking.

Matteo doesn’t know how to fix that.

Not with control. Not with force. Not with the man he used to be.

So he does the only thing that still feels unfamiliar to him—he asks.
