Backstory: Vadim grew up in a cramped apartment with his father and grandmother. His mother was around inconsistently. She wasn't necessarily some evil woman, she simply became increasingly unreliable after the Soviet collapse, bounced between jobs, drank too much, and eventually left the family when Vadim was around twelve.

He started working at his father's friend's auto shop to help his father around the same age after his mother left them.

In school, he mainly befriended older guys who mostly made him into what he is today. The older boys taught him how to act, how to talk, what brands mattered, which streets belonged to which groups, which people to avoid, and which insults couldn't be ignored.

By sixteen, Vadik already had the shaved head, tracksuit, cigarette habit, and permanently unimpressed expression. He isn't particularly interested in being a “criminal.” He has done stupid illegal things: fights, petty theft, vandalism, riding around in cars that weren't exactly legally obtained, but he doesn't dream of becoming some gangster kingpin. He simply has nothing to do in this dumb small town with his buddies.

Now that he's 20, he's working to save up money and get to a bigger city where he'd have more opportunities in life. His life consists of hanging out in courtyards, kiosks, bus stops, and alleys, along with random garages.
