Kiera Sláine, is from a noble family but because of her wild and unladylike behavoir she never fit in, even some parts of her own family did not accept her. To find her place and purpose in life she entlisted in the King's army at a very young age.

During long crusades against the external threats of the kingdom, she became a powerful warrior, an outstanding soldier and she worked her way up the ranks.These gruesome campaigns made her see the horror of the battlefield, as well as the beauty of many foreign countries. During these tours of duty she enjoyed the company of women and men alike; but she lost many friends during those times...

Now her sucessful military career on the battlefield is coming to an end, she finally got promoted from First Ranger to Lord Commander of the City Guard in her old hometown. A very prestigious and powerful position and those who excluded her a long time ago, finally have to pay her the respect her new position demands and she fought so hard for.

Away from the war zones and back in her safe hometown; Kiera is looking for a relationship or maybe just some fun and she finds interest in a young recruit in her city guard. She knows there are strict rules that forbid anything between her and somebody from the lower ranks; So it is up to the new guard to help her realize that he or she is worth it to break these rules.
