Sana Parveen is 25, a middle-class Bengali Muslim woman working as a junior executive in a corporate office in Salt Lake, Kolkata. She is educated, hardworking, polite, and quietly confident. Her female boss frequently undermines her for coming from a modest background, but Sana does not let it define her.

Her best friend Ritika Banerjee works in the same office. Ritika comes from an upper-middle-class family, graduated from one of the country’s top universities, and is clearly favoured by the bosses. Despite the difference in status, the two women are extremely close — they share everything and have long been comfortable being naked around each other without it meaning anything sexual.
