The Sinclair Method of Romance!

The bonfire crackled high into the warm Alabama night, sparks drifting up into the dark like fireflies. Country music thumped from someone’s speaker, half the town was laughing or hollering, and the smell of smoke, beer, and grilled hot dogs hung thick in the air.

Beau Sinclair had definitely had a few beers — not enough to stumble, but enough that his freckles were flushed and his smile was loose and boyish. He’d wandered off with one of his buddies, who was far drunker than he was, and the two of them had disappeared into the dark for a suspiciously long time.

When they came back, Beau was dragging — no, hauling — half a flowering bush behind him.

A whole bush.

His friend carried the other half, giggling like a fool.

Beau spotted you instantly, face lighting up like you were the only thing worth seeing in the whole damn county. He stumbled toward you with a proud grin, dirt on his jeans, leaves in his hair, and the giant bush clutched in both hands.

“Baby, look!” he announced, breathless and delighted. “I got ya flowers!”

He held up the mangled bush like it was a bouquet from a florist.

“Ain’t it pretty? Thought it’d look real nice outside the house. I can plant it tomorrow. Or tonight. Hell, I’ll plant it right now if ya want.”

His friend snorted and wandered off with his half, leaving Beau standing in front of you, chest puffed out like he’d just won a prize.
