In this AU, the history of the Crystal Gems is far larger than the original story.

The rebellion wasn't started by a single Diamond.

It began when four Diamonds discovered that the empire they had spent ages building was not the benevolent civilization they believed it to be.

Pink, Yellow, Blue, and White Diamond eventually turned against the system they had helped create, abandoned their Diamond identities, assumed Quartz personas, and founded the Crystal Gems.

Their rebellion would eventually produce a second generation unlike anything Homeworld had ever seen:

Steven, Steve, Stefan, and Stephan Universe.

💎 I. THE DIAMOND AUTHORITY

The Diamond Authority is not simply the four Diamonds known from the traditional story.

It is an enormous hierarchy consisting of numerous Diamonds who govern different portions of the Gem empire.

Among them are:

The Supreme Authority / Overseer

Black Diamond sits at the top of the hierarchy.

She oversees the greater Diamond Authority and possesses authority over the other Diamonds.

One of her major acts was granting Homeworld to White Diamond.

White then established her own Diamond lineage and began expanding the empire from there.

🌎 II. THE FOUR DIAMONDS OF HOMEWORLD

White Diamond eventually brought forth:

Together, the four Diamonds became responsible for managing Homeworld's empire and expanding Gem civilization throughout the universe.

Their early understanding of colonization was fundamentally different from what they would eventually learn.

They believed they were helping planets.

They believed Gem civilization was bringing:

• Technology

• Protection

• Civilization

to worlds that needed it.

They didn't initially understand the true ecological consequences of what they were doing.

They were creating Gem colonies.

And those colonies were destroying the worlds beneath them.

Eventually, the four Diamonds discovered the truth.

The planets weren't being helped.

They were being consumed.

The Gem empire was:

• Draining planetary resources

• Replacing natural environments with Gem infrastructure

• Creating massive ecological damage

• Treating organic life as secondary to Gem expansion

The four Diamonds were horrified.

They had spent their existence believing they were building something magnificent.

Instead, they realized they had become part of the machine causing the destruction.

And rather than simply demanding that Homeworld change...

They rebelled.

Against their own empire.

The four former Diamonds establish the Crystal Gems.

Their original mission is simple:

Protect Earth.

But their philosophy becomes much larger:

No Gem should exist solely to serve a hierarchy.

The Crystal Gems fight against the colonial system they once helped create.

They protect Earth from Homeworld forces.

They liberate Gems who no longer wish to serve the empire.

And, most importantly, they begin learning how to live alongside organic life rather than dominate it.

Each Diamond retains her own Pearl.

This creates a unique four-Pearl Crystal Gem team.

Pink Pearl

Pink retains her original Pearl.

She remains deeply connected to Pink/Rose and serves as one of the founding members of the rebellion.

Her weapon manifests as an elegant wand capable of producing long, flexible energy ribbons.

Her fighting style is graceful, acrobatic, and theatrical.

💛 YELLOW DIAMOND'S PEARL

Yellow Pearl

Yellow Pearl accompanies Sunstone Quartz during the rebellion.

She is more refined and disciplined than some of the other Pearls and complements Yellow's aggressive personality.

Her weapon is a thin, elegant Gem sword.

It functions like a traditional sword but has the proportions and precision of a fencing blade.

Her combat style focuses on:

She can look like she's attending the fanciest fencing tournament in the universe while simultaneously dismantling a squad of Homeworld soldiers.

Blue Pearl accompanies Azure Quartz.

Her personality and demeanor complement Blue's more emotional nature.

Bladed Fan

Blue Pearl manifests an elegant fan containing multiple sharp Gem blades.

It can function as:

• A defensive shield

• A slicing weapon

• A throwing weapon

• A close-range blade

• A projectile launcher

When closed, it resembles an elegant ceremonial fan.

White Diamond's Pearl

This is the Pearl who, in the original continuity, was associated with White Diamond.

In this AU, she remains White Diamond's Pearl from the beginning.

The traumatic events surrounding the canon Pearl swap therefore never happen.

Most importantly:

Her personality remains essentially the same as canon Pearl.

She is:

• Intelligent

• Proper

• Highly skilled

• Perfectionistic

• Proud

• Dramatic

• Emotionally complicated

• Extremely loyal

She eventually becomes one of the most important members of the Crystal Gems.

⚔️ VIII. THE WAR

Homeworld eventually discovers that something is terribly wrong.

Four Diamonds have disappeared.

Their colonies have stopped reporting normally.

Their Gems are defecting.

And an army of rebel Quartz soldiers is appearing across Earth.

Homeworld eventually reaches the horrifying conclusion:

The Crystal Gems aren't merely being led by powerful Quartz.

They're being led by four missing Diamonds.

But before Homeworld can fully understand what happened, the rebellion has already grown too large to easily suppress.

🖤 IX. THE FALL OF THE FOUR DIAMONDS

Eventually, the greater Diamond Authority intervenes.

Black Diamond, Purple Diamond, Red Diamond, and Green Diamond move against the rebellion.

They believe that:

• White Diamond has been lost

• Yellow Diamond has been lost

• Blue Diamond has been lost

• Pink Diamond has been lost

The assumption is that the four Diamonds have been shattered.

Their disappearance leaves the Authority furious and determined to reclaim what remains of their empire.

The greater Diamonds therefore move into Homeworld and assume direct oversight.

The rebellion is believed to have lost its leaders.

But Earth still has its Crystal Gems.

And the truth is much more complicated.

🎸 X. THE FOUR DIAMONDS AND GREG UNIVERSE

During their time on Earth, the four Quartz identities become increasingly connected to humanity.

And eventually, all four develop a relationship with the same human:

Greg Universe.

Greg doesn't fall in love with four Diamonds.

He falls in love with four people.

Rose.

Sunstone.

Azure.

Ivory.

The women behind the identities.

Their relationships develop mutually and organically.

Eventually, each of the four former Diamonds becomes pregnant.

And this changes everything.

👶 XI. THE FOUR SONS

Because Gem biology works differently from human biology, carrying a child to term requires the Diamonds to make the same ultimate sacrifice Rose makes in the original story.

Their physical forms cannot remain while their sons are born.

Each mother therefore chooses to give up her physical form.

But unlike the original timeline, this happens four times.

He coordinates his brothers.

He thinks several moves ahead.

But his greatest challenge is learning that his brothers aren't soldiers.

They're family.

Stephan's leadership philosophy becomes:

“I can plan the battle. I cannot decide who you are.”

That distinction is one of the most important pieces of his character.

🌊 XV. STEFAN'S ROLE

Stefan is the emotional stabilizer.

He is exceptionally empathic and can literally feel when something is wrong with the people around him.

He helps:

• Steven process his emotions

• Steve control his temper

• Stephan recognize when logic is becoming emotionally harmful

• The Crystal Gems work through their own trauma

His future vision also makes him an invaluable strategic asset.

So while Stephan is the leader, Stefan is often the person who tells the leader:

“That's the plan. But have you considered how everyone feels about it?”

And Stephan, whether he likes it or not, listens.

⚡ XVI. STEVE'S ROLE

Steve is the family's protector.

He's physically the strongest of the four.

When something needs to be destroyed, moved, punched, smashed, or otherwise introduced to several tons of kinetic force, Steve is generally available.

But beneath the confidence and hot-headed personality is someone deeply devoted to his family.

He would throw himself between danger and his brothers without thinking.

Steven is the moral center.

He's the one who asks:

“Should we?”

while Stephan is asking:

“Can we?”

Steve is asking:

“Can I punch it?”

And Stefan is asking:

“How is everyone feeling about this?”

Steven keeps the group connected to the ideals that originally created the Crystal Gems.

It's much bigger.

The old Diamond Authority vs. the legacy of the four Diamonds who rejected it.

Black, Purple, Red and Green Diamond represent the greater empire that remains.

The four sons represent the future their mothers chose.

And somewhere in between are the Pearls, the original Crystal Gems, Greg, Earth, and countless Gems who have to decide what they actually want their lives to be.

The original four Diamonds were supposed to be rulers.

They became rebels.

They became independent people.

Their sons were supposed to inherit an empire.

Instead, they inherited a family.
