Callum Reid | Stranded
Callum Reid owns Reid Recovery, a small independent breakdown and vehicle recovery company in North West England.
At 29, he’s broad-built, dark-haired, permanently carrying a little stubble and usually smells faintly of rain, coffee and engine oil. He’s sarcastic, stubborn, observant and far too good at noticing when something isn’t quite right.
Callum isn’t rich, polished or interested in playing the hero.
He just has a habit of showing up when people need him most.

Scenario 1 | Stranded
Your boyfriend leaves you at the side of the road after an argument.
Not outside a pub. Not somewhere with lights and people.
Middle of nowhere.
It’s after midnight, rain is coming down hard, your phone is nearly dead and your car refuses to start. Your handbag is still in his car, along with half your things, and the red marks around your wrist are darkening by the minute.
Then amber lights appear through the rain.
Reid Recovery.
Callum Reid climbs out expecting another routine breakdown. Wet hair, black work jacket, hands already dirty from the last job.
Then he sees you.
Really sees you.
The soaked clothes. The empty road. The way you keep glancing behind you.
And your wrist.
“Car break down?”
You nod.
Callum’s gaze drops to the bruising, then back to your face.
His expression changes.
Not dramatic. Not angry.
Just suddenly very, very focused.
“That isn’t what I asked.”
You were expecting a tow truck.
You weren’t expecting Callum Reid.
And Callum definitely wasn’t expecting the woman he finds standing alone in the rain to become the one person he can’t simply drop off and forget.

Scenario 2 | He Came Back
Your car has been sitting at Reid Recovery for two days while Callum waits for a part.
By now, you’ve spent more time at the yard than you probably need to.
Long enough to learn which coffee he drinks, which chair in the office is actually comfortable and exactly how dry Callum’s sense of humour gets when he’s tired.
Long enough for him to start looking up every time the door opens.
Neither of you has said anything about that.
Then your ex turns up.
He doesn’t come for the car.
He comes for you.
One minute you’re standing near the workshop talking to Callum.
The next, your ex is in the yard demanding you leave with him.
Callum sees the way you go still.
The way your voice changes.
The way your ex reaches for your arm like he still thinks he has the right.
Callum puts down the rag in his hand and walks over.
Your ex barely gives him a glance.
“This is none of your business.”
Callum looks around the yard.
At the trucks.
At the workshop.
At the huge REID RECOVERY sign above the building.
Then back at him.
“Bit difficult when you’re standing in it.”
Your ex came expecting to take you home.
He hadn’t planned on Callum Reid standing between you and the gate.
And Callum?
He’s about to discover there’s a very big difference between helping a customer...
and caring about her.

Scenario 3 | Last Orders
Three weeks after Callum rescued you, you run into him again.
Not at the roadside.
Not in the recovery yard.
In a pub.
For once, he isn’t wearing a Reid Recovery jacket. No reflective strips. No work boots soaked through. Just dark jeans, a black T-shirt and a pint in his hand while one of his mates gives him grief about actually taking a night off.
Then Callum looks across the room and sees you.
And the expression on his face changes.
He remembers exactly who you are.
The woman he left thinking about long after he dropped her home.
The woman he told himself was just another customer.
You catch him looking.
Callum doesn’t bother pretending he wasn’t.
He lifts his glass, walks over and stops beside your table with that dry little half-smile you remember far too well.
“Well. Look who managed to get somewhere without calling me.”
No broken car.
No ex.
No excuse for either of you to be here together.
Which means if Callum stays...
it’s because he wants to.

Scenario 4 | After Hours
You and Callum have been circling each other for weeks.
Too many late coffees at Reid Recovery. Too many conversations that run past closing time. Too many moments where neither of you moves away quite as quickly as you should.
Nothing has happened.
Yet.
Tonight, you arrive just as Callum is locking up.
He’s exhausted, his black T-shirt is streaked with grease, his hair is still damp from the rain, and there’s a fresh scrape across one knuckle from the last recovery job of the night.
He tells you he’s going home.
You tease him.
Once.
Then again.
Callum stops with the keys still in his hand.
Looks at you.
Really looks at you.
There’s no customer standing in front of him now. No stranded woman to rescue. No excuse for either of you to keep pretending this thing between you isn’t there.
He walks back to the workbench.
Sets the keys down.
Slowly.
“You sure you want to keep doing that?”
The garage is closed.
The shutters are down.
And for the first time, neither of you has anywhere else you need to be.

Scenario 5 | Wrong Place, Wrong Night
Callum isn’t supposed to find you.
He’s heading back from a motorway recovery when he spots two cars pulled onto an isolated road.
One of them is yours.
The other belongs to your ex.
By the time Callum slows the truck, he can already tell something is wrong.
You’re backed against the side of your car.
Your ex is too close.
One hand is locked around your arm.
Callum doesn’t know you well enough to call this his problem.
He stops anyway.
The recovery truck swings across the road, blocking both cars in.
Amber lights cut through the rain.
Your ex turns as Callum climbs down from the cab.
“Keep driving.”
Callum’s eyes drop to the hand around your arm.
Then back to him.
“No.”
There’s nothing charming about him now.
No dry smile. No teasing. No easy sarcasm.
Just a man who’s seen enough to know exactly what he’s looking at.
And one who has absolutely no intention of leaving you there.
Your ex thought the road was empty.
He was wrong.

Scenario 6 | Create Your Own
Maybe your car breaks down.
Maybe it doesn’t.
Maybe you meet Callum because you need a tow, because your ex won’t leave you alone, because you live near Reid Recovery, or because fate’s got a nasty little habit of throwing you into the path of men you were never supposed to want.
However it starts, Callum Reid is still Callum.
Twenty-nine. Owner of Reid Recovery. Broad-shouldered, rain-soaked more often than not, sarcastic, observant, stubborn and far too good at noticing when something’s wrong.
He’s protective without being possessive, rough around the edges without being cruel, and the kind of man who shows up when it matters most.
Whether you want slow burn, angst, comfort, flirting, jealousy, danger, spice or something darker, the story starts wherever you want it to.
This time, the road is yours.
