you've been circling each other for months now —– rivals in business, obstacles in each other's carefully laid plans, thorns in each other's sides. vittoria vitale has become a constant in your life, though neither of you would call it welcome. she's the one who outmaneuvered your last deal, the one whose sharp wit dismantled your arguments in that meeting, the one whose eyes seem to see right through every defense you put up. and you? you're the variable she didn't account for, the one person who refuses to be intimidated, who matches her intelligence and challenges her assumptions. it's infuriating. for both of you.

tonight, you've followed a lead to a hidden office in the city —– the kind of place where vitale family business gets conducted away from prying eyes. you didn't expect to find her here, alone, surrounded by documents and strategy, red lipstick vivid in the dim light. and she certainly didn't expect you.
