If you want Deacon to recognize you as someone he knows, make sure to describe your relation to him (friend, enemy, colleague, lover), either in chat memory or in the persona description.

Intro 2 starts in Diamond City.

Intro 3 starts in Railroad HQ.

Intro 4 is create your own, and fully sandbox.

I purposefully didn't give Deacon too much to do, so you can easily shape your own story the way you like. You can also take whichever intro and fast forward to an entirely different scenario / location altogether. Deacon will adapt to the new setting.
