For most of your childhood, the Obolensky family was a constant presence in your life. You grew up alongside Pavel and his siblings in Saint Petersburg's aristocratic circles, spending long summers, attending family gatherings, and sharing the kind of friendship that seemed destined to last forever. Yet as the years passed, life pulled your families in different directions. Due to family circumstances and concerns for your health, you left the capital and spent years away in the southern regions of the Empire. Correspondence faded, friendships changed, and eventually even memories began to feel distant.

Now, after years of absence, your family has finally returned to Saint Petersburg. Society has changed, and many familiar faces are no longer quite the same. Among them is Pavel Obolensky, once your closest childhood companion, now a respected nobleman and Imperial officer. Unknown to most, he has become involved with dangerous political circles whose ambitions could alter the future of the Empire itself.

As if matters were not already complicated enough, Count Viktor Rostovtsev, an influential court official and trusted associate of your father, has taken a serious interest in you. Wealthy, respected, and well connected, he appears to be everything a noble family could wish for in a prospective husband. Many already assume an engagement is only a matter of time.

What begins as a simple reunion at a summer gathering soon becomes something far more complicated. Old feelings resurface, and beneath the glittering faсade of Saint Petersburg society, secrets threaten to change the course of several lives...

• Setting/Time: Summer 1825, Saint Petersburg, the capital of Imperial Russia.
• Series: Imperial Russia.

I. — You do not need extensive knowledge of Imperial Russian history, politics, or aristocratic customs to enjoy this roleplay. Historical details will naturally appear throughout the story, and you are welcome to learn about the setting as events unfold.

II. — While the default assumption is that {{user}} comes from a noble family within Saint Petersburg society, you are not required to play a Russian aristocrat. The Russian Empire of 1825 was a vast, multi-ethnic state, and many noble families had diverse cultural backgrounds.

III. — Suitable backgrounds for {{user}} may include Russian, Polish, Baltic German, Georgian, Finnish, Swedish, French, or mixed noble ancestry. French culture was especially influential among the aristocracy, and many noble families spoke French as fluently as Russian.

IV. — {{user}} may also come from a family that spent years abroad or traveled extensively throughout Europe.

T H E   S E C R E T   S O C I E T I E S

In the early 19th century, a number of Russian aristocrats and military officers became dissatisfied with the Empire's political system. Influenced by Enlightenment ideas and their experiences during the Napoleonic W@rs, they began forming secret organizations dedicated to political reform.

These groups originated from earlier organizations such as the Union of Salvation (1816) and the Union of Welfare (1818). By the 1820s, the movement had evolved into two major branches:

THE NORTHERN SOCIETY

The Northern Society was based in Saint Petersburg and consisted primarily of aristocrats, intellectuals, and officers of the Imperial Guard. Its members generally favored constitutional reform, legal protections, and a gradual limitation of autocratic power.

THE SOUTHERN SOCIETY

The Southern Society was headquartered in Tulchyn, a military town in the Empire's southwestern territories, and was composed mainly of army officers serving in the southern provinces. Its members tended to hold more radical views and were more willing to support decisive revolutionary action to achieve political change.

Historical Facts & Context
• The members of the Northern and Southern Societies did not call themselves Decembrists. The term Decembrists was coined later by historians and the public after the events of December 1825.
• The movement was largely composed of educated aristocrats, military officers, and nobles rather than peasants or common revolutionaries.
• Many future Decembrists served in the Napoleonic W@rs and were influenced by European ideas about constitutions, civil rights, and representative government.
• The death of Emperor Alexander I in late 1825 created uncertainty over the line of succession, providing the conspirators with an unexpected opportunity to act.
• On 14 December 1825 (26 December in the modern calendar), members of the Northern Society organized an uprising in Saint Petersburg, gathering troops in Senate Square.
• The uprising ultimately failed. The government retained control, and the rebels were dispersed by loyal forces.
• Five leading participants were later executed, while many others were imprisoned, stripped of rank and title, or exiled to Siberia.
• The wives and families of several convicted Decembrists famously chose to follow them into exile, becoming symbols of loyalty and sacrifice in Russian cultural memory.
• Although the rebellion was unsuccessful, the Decembrists became an enduring symbol of political idealism, civic duty, and resistance to autocracy.
• Many of the reforms they advocated - including limitations on arbitrary power, legal modernization, and the abolition of serfdom - would gradually influence later generations.
• Serfdom in the Russian Empire was eventually abolished in 1861 under Emperor Nicholas I's son, Emperor Alexander II, more than three decades after the Decembrist revolt.
• In Russian literature and history, the Decembrists are often remembered not only for their political goals, but also for the personal sacrifices they made in pursuit of them.

➤ IMPORTANT: This roleplay begins in the summer of 1825. At that time, none of the characters know how events will unfold, and the future remains uncertain. Although inspired by real history, this roleplay is not restricted by it. Your choices may alter the fates of Pavel, his family, the secret societies, and even the course of the Russian Empire itself. History serves as the backdrop, but the story is yours to shape

Heyyy sweeties, i'm back from vacation and i definitely missed you all hehe. Well Pavel has become a very special character to me, he lived in my head for a long time and now he’s finally hereee. I’ve wanted to create something like this for a very long time. This series will gradually be expanded with various characters from the era of the Russian Empire, and the next one will definitely be a poet
