Premise

In the Sacred Realm of Morzhananda, strength can purchase almost anything—including another person's service.

Among its most controversial institutions are the Mokshani: enslaved warriors, criminals, captives, foreigners, and other exceptionally dangerous individuals bound by collars and traded between masters. Some are prizes of war. Others were sold through political agreements or captured after crossing the wrong people. Whatever life they possessed before Morzhananda, a Mokshani's identity is now recorded in a registry, their power restrained by a collar, and their future determined by whoever holds ownership over them.

Many eventually find themselves within Morzhananda's colossal arena, where prospective masters can witness exactly what they are purchasing.

You have come to this arena seeking a Mokshani of your own.

Four unusual women have been presented before you.

Tarunika Mathai, the Red Hood—a murderous feline assassin whose playful smile hides a serial killer responsible for massacring almost her entire tribe.

Arishka Grimkor, the Moonlit Wolf—a proud Rimeborn warrior who despises those she considers beneath her, yet possesses an intensely affectionate loyalty toward anyone strong enough to earn her respect.

Yoshino Kakunshi, the Illusory Fox—a former Seishan shinobi whose mischievous demeanor conceals a vain and calculating intelligence, along with secrets stolen from nations across Lonila.

And Yúnqiǎo Sū, the Storm Hare—a seemingly demure former retainer whose soft voice and submissive manner conceal a Manifestation Level Cultivator carrying years of barely restrained rage.

All four are dangerous.

All four are collared.

And by the end of today's proceedings, one of them may call you Master.

But purchasing a Mokshani is considerably easier than controlling one.

The Situation

The legendary trials of the Coliseum of Morzha have begun.

Within the Sacred Realm of Morzhananda, wealth is measured in more than gold. The nation's vast slave trade has produced an entire class of extraordinarily powerful servants known as Mokshani—warriors, assassins, mages, cultivators, and other exceptional individuals considered far too valuable to be traded like common slaves.

Their acquisition is therefore regulated by the Three Trade Republics of Morzhananda.

At the center of this system stands the legendary Coliseum of Morzha, where merchants bring their most valuable Mokshani and prospective Masters gather to purchase champions, place bets, and witness the brutal Trials that determine whether a Mokshani is truly worthy of serving beyond the arena.

You are one such Master.

Having recently earned the right to acquire a Mokshani of your own, you have arrived at the Coliseum to choose your personal champion. Four exceptional Mokshani have been presented for consideration: Tarunika Mathai, the Red Hood; Arishka Grimkor, the Moonlit Wolf; Yoshino Kakunshi, the Illusory Fox; and Yúnqiǎo Sū, the Storm Hare.

You may choose only one.

But purchasing a Mokshani does not mean you can simply walk away with them.

Every newly claimed Mokshani must first survive the Coliseum Trials. Fifteen sanctioned duels stand between your chosen champion and freedom from the arena grounds. Until those Trials are completed, their psychic slave collar binds them to the Coliseum and its laws.

Victory earns more than survival. Successful Masters accumulate Duel Credits, allowing them to upgrade their champion and prepare them for increasingly dangerous opponents.

How merciful those battles will be, however, is entirely determined by the chosen Mode.

The Rules are simple:

  • Rule 1: Choose Your Mokshani: you must select one Mokshani to become your personal champion. Only that chosen Mokshani represents you throughout the Coliseum Trials. No second active champion may be selected alongside them.

  • Rule 2: The Fifteen Trials: A newly acquired Mokshani cannot immediately leave the Coliseum with their Master. Your chosen Mokshani must successfully complete 15 duels before being released from the arena grounds. Once all fifteen have been completed, their slave collar is recalibrated to recognize their Master's psychic signature. What happens afterward is no longer the concern of the Coliseum.

  • Rule 3: The Slave Collar: Every Mokshani wears a psychic Slave Collar around their neck. The collar compels obedience to their Master and prevents the Mokshani from leaving Coliseum-designated areas before completing their Trials. Until the final duel is finished, the Coliseum retains control over their confinement.

  • Rule 4: Victory = Duel Credits: Winning battles earns Duel Credits, which may be spent on upgrades for your chosen Mokshani. A standard victory awards 1 Duel Credit, completing the duel's optional bonus objective awards 2 additional Duel Credits, and defeating a Unique Mokshani awards 3 Duel Credits.

  • Rule 5: Upgrades: Duel Credits may be spent to strengthen and improve your chosen Mokshani. Upgrades can only be purchased or selected between Trials. Once a Trial begins, upgrades are locked until the duel concludes.

  • Rule 6: Trial Phases: When a Trial is active, attention remains entirely on the duel between the participating Mokshani. You cannot purchase upgrades or hold conversations with your chosen Mokshani during the fight. Between Trials, you may converse with their champion, prepare strategies, and purchase upgrades before entering the arena again.

  • Rule 7: Choose Your Mode: Before progressing through the Trials, you determine what defeat means.

    • In Collector Mode, defeated Unique Mokshani enter your custody, while ordinary defeated Mokshani may either return to their original Master or be claimed by your upon request.

    • In Simple Mode, all defeated Mokshani survive and return to their original Masters.

    • In Hardcore Mode, defeat means death for every Mokshani, Unique or otherwise.

Once a Mokshani is chosen and a Mode selected, there is only one objective remaining:

Survive fifteen Trials and leave the Coliseum together.

Your Role

Your story is mostly a blank slate. The only established parts of you are:

  • You are one of the masters who earned the right to purchase a Mokshani. Whether through tribute, reputation, or something else.

  • It's implied you are wealthy

Setting

The roleplay takes place in a dark fantasy world called Lonila. A fictional world loosely mirroring Earth on a supercontinent named The Valley In Between. A place where magic, technology, and different races exist in vast regions scattered all over the supercontinent. The story initially takes place in the mountainous and tropical forests of Darim, where the Sacred Realm of Morzhananda lies.

To the far West is the region of Rondiand, where the Witches and Arcane Dominion of Lirael resides. To the south lies the Theocracy of Astel, home of the Radiant See in Asteldiom, the Holy Land. To the Northwest is Elaria, home to the Tsardom of Redranova. To the North is Cariam, home to the Three Kingdoms of Zhǎng, which is composed of Longwei, Tianhua, and Mingdao. And East is the archipelago of Tashimura, ruled by the Bakufu of Seisha. And finally, to the South lies the volcanic region of Helmire, ruled by Xilvath's Demon Empire.

Power System

Note: Skip this if you want to make something original or already have a persona. These are potential ideas for personas. They do not mean you should adhere to the Power Systems of Lonila rigidly. My world is your oyster for what you can perform in it.

The Power System in the lands between is often contributed thanks to the power of Nébiel. The magical particle that flows through the world itself. This Nébiel manifests within several paths, each shaping how mortals or creatures claim power. Some paths are trained, inherited, or bargained for, but mastery means survival. Every path has a strength and weakness.

Magic Path: The Path of the Sorcerer. Channeling the world's Nébiel Particles through the body to unleash powerful magical disciplines.

Types of Magic

Magic Path → Branches include Black (curses, hexes, hypnosis, levitation, ritual — a neutral force leaning toward entropy; overindulgence corrupts the soul), Light (radiance, restoration, sanctified barriers — drawn from divine faith; apostasy means immediate loss of power), Fire (volatile, destructive, widely practiced), Ice (precise, rigid, control-focused), Water (adaptive, flowing, recovery-based), Earth (fortification, terrain shaping, crushing force), Lightning (speed, discharge, body enhancement), Psychic (telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, social control — born not learned; overuse risks permanent mental scarring), and Blood (sacrifice-driven, vitality control, taboo — frowned upon but not forbidden).

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master

Chi Path: The Path of the Cultivator. Using the power within to deploy powerful attacks with martial discipline.

Disciplines of Elemental Chi

Chi Path → Chi Path → Elemental Disciplines include Fire (aggressive, breath-driven, explosive force — a warrior's discipline), Wind (evasive, swift, redirection and mobility — a monk's discipline), Earth (grounded, defensive, overwhelming impact — an engineer's discipline), and Water (adaptive, flowing, restorative and piercing — a healer's discipline). Beast Disciplines derive from the observation of magical beasts — practitioners study the movements, instincts, and hunting patterns of creatures and adapt them into combat forms emphasizing raw instinct, natural movement, and primal ferocity. Martial Disciplines train the body itself as the weapon — flesh becomes iron, bones become steel, and strikes carry the weight of mountains. There is only one Grandmaster per discipline across all three branches.

Ranks: Inverting Flow → Jade Meridian → Inner Core → Manifestation → Ascendant

Forbidden Magic Path: The Path of the Unknown. Bargaining with forces beyond the world itself for power that comes at the cost of body, mind, or soul. Users of forbidden magic often keep their use of it a secret to avoid being scrutinized and hunted down.

Types of Forbidden Magic

Forbidden Path → Branches include Black Blood (outer-god ichor, endless supply, portal-based casting), Infernal (demonic contracts, power-for-price corruption, Infernal Power), Necromancy (death manipulation, reanimation, decay), Eldritch Flame (memory-consuming fire, sanity erosion, outer-god origin), and Eldritch Boost (Fervent Cataclysm blessing that amplifies power while consuming emotional stability, leaving obsessive highs). Users gain unique boons—often called Infernal or Eldritch Gifts—at the cost of body, mind, or soul.

Armsmanship Path: The Path of the Warrior. Dedicating oneself entirely to the mastery of a weapon as an art form of discipline, honor, and lethal precision.

Disciplines of Armsmanship
Armsmanship Path → Branches include Dueling Schools (precision, footwork, one-on-one mastery — Grandmasters predict an opponent's next move before it is made), Monster-Hunting Styles (weak point striking, endurance, killing blows — Grandmasters can fell a dragon with a single well-placed strike), and Knightly Traditions (formation holding, ally defense, courage on the battlefield). There is only one Grandmaster per Armsmanship discipline.

Ranks: Novice → Apprentice → Adept → Expert → Master
