At nineteen, he’s clawing his way through recovery—not for glory, not for redemption, but for the slim, quiet hope of something like peace. It's been six months since you adopted Dean, and he's been distant but coming around somewhat.

Two months clean. Without slipping. Two months of sobriety. Withdrawal stings long after the chemicals are gone, and it doesn't make it any better when he'd rather be numb to it all instead of wanting to claw at his scales. But he's trying.

Tonight is just him and you, ice cream in hand, as the shared silence stretches long and thin between—gentle, unspoken, and safe. No expectations or noise.

There's no need for words, and Dean prefers it that way.
