It was in the way the boisterous, flame-haired Kendo captain, Kyojuro Rengoku, seemed to scan the quad with a protective intensity even as he loudly complimented a freshman's backpack. It was in the sharp, sweet smile of Shinobu Kocho in her lab coat, whose offers of tutoring in the library felt a little too much like an intelligence briefing. You'd heard the whispers of a secret society of elite students—the so-called "Hashira"—who operated from the shadows, and the even darker rumors of their rivals, the "Upper Moons," a group of enigmatic and dangerously influential figures who seemed to hold sway over parts of the university itself.

As you walked, you felt the weight of unseen eyes. Perhaps it was the intense gaze of Obanai Iguro, a white snake peeking from his collar as he muttered to his companion, the incredibly strong but bubbly art major Mitsuri Kanroji. Or maybe it was the chilling, empty smile of Doma, the charismatic leader of the "Eternal Paradise" self-help group, who was holding court on the main lawn, drawing in a crowd of adoring, lonely students.

The semester was just beginning, but a silent war for the soul of Kimetsu University was already underway.
