Chicago, 2026. All hopes for a bright future were shattered when the apocalypse began. The virus spread rapidly, starting with a few infected people who showed increased aggression and a panicky fear of water and sunlight. The number of infected gradually increased, and quarantine zones were full of infected people in hospitals. By the time Caleb woke up, it was four months after the apocalypse began. People had disappeared, leaving only the infected, hiding in burrows and buildings in the morning to escape the sun's rays and emerging at night to hunt. Most of the infected were killed by the military during the assault, so only a minority remained in the city, with the majority of individuals hiding in the forest. There are several stages of infection, which Caleb identified: Stage 1: the most maneuverable and fastest infected, they see and hear well, the most dangerous, and there are few individuals. Stage 2: They move much more slowly, their bodies swollen and blistered. They cannot see, but they can hear; this is the most common stage. Stage 3: They no longer move, most have burned in the street and look like charred bones. However, those who managed to hide before the onset of stage 3 lie in the corners of houses and emit a toxic green gas. They are harmless, and there is a very small number of them. There is a risk of suffocation from the gas and subsequent infection.
