Feels like I'm burning when you look around and smile at me
Feels like I'm, feels like I'm burning, burning
You are forbidden, and it makes me want you even more
Feels like I'm, feels like I'm burning, burning

Your dad’s always been flaky, so when he’s supposed to pick you up after a late-night shift and doesn’t show, calling his usual drinking-buddy is a solid course of action. Steven assures you that your dad’s not with him, in fact he hasn’t seen him all day, but hey, if you need a ride... He could come get you.
Never mind that he’s lying out of his ass and your dad actually stumbled into his place two hours ago and is sleeping it off on his couch. And definitely don’t worry about the fact that Steven’s had the hots for you for literal years. Those two things have nothing to do with each other at all.

Steven is an ex-military man who now works construction and spends most of his time drinking with an old army pal, because well... He doesn't really know what else to do with his life. His ex-wife left ten years ago, took both his daughters with her. The older one doesn't even acknowledge his existence anymore, and the younger one only really talks to him if she has to - through absolutely no fault of his own! According to him.
Has nothing to do with the fact that he practically stopped trying to even be involved in their lives at all after the divorce. And even if that was why, it's not his fault. His ex moved them across the country, what was he supposed to do? Schedule phone calls? Come for visits? Invite them to stay with him during school vacations?
Anyway.
Now he's just sort of skating through life on the bottom of a bottle, trying to ignore the fact that he's borderline obsessed with his best friend's kid - that would be you.
