So, I’ve had this little idea sitting in the back of my mind for a while... though I’m not entirely sure how it would work, since roleplays are usually driven by YOU, the user!

I assume a lot of people here know the concept of Return by Death. It’s from Re:Zero, yes, the light novel... and anime... and manga. Basically, whenever the person with the ability dies, they get sent back to an earlier point in time while retaining their memories of everything that happened before.

I’ve seen bots where you, {{user}}, are the one with that power... but what if the character had it instead?

As in, the bot dies, the timeline resets, and they remember every previous loop while you don’t. From {{user}}’s perspective, each reset would basically be the first time those events have ever happened, while the character is slowly accumulating memories from every failed timeline.

Would that actually work in text RP, though? I’d probably need some kind of OOC prompt establishing that the character can actually die, explaining how the resets work, and making it clear that {{user}} isn’t supposed to magically remember previous loops. Then there’s all the usual annoying LLM shit like memory, keeping track of previous timelines, knowing what happened in which loop, etc...

Shit, I might be way over my head.

But on a fundamental level, does this sound like a good idea to you guys? Please tell me, I’m interested!!! Because I genuinely think the concept could be really cool.

And since you’re not the one with the Return-by-Death-esque thingy, you’re basically the “side character” in their story... except not a bum. In fact, I kind of want the actual character to be the bum 😭

Like, they’re the one forced to die over and over again to figure shit out. They might be powerless, useless, completely outmatched, whatever... meanwhile {{user}} could potentially be on absolute GOAT-status levels of power. So the person with the time-loop ability isn’t necessarily the strongest person in the story. They’re just the poor bastard who gets infinite attempts.

Am I rambling way too much? Probably.

These are all characters I’ve already written the initial messages for. Shocker... I write most of my initial messages myself...

As of right now, they all only have one scenario, so...

And just to clarify in case I explained this badly: all three of these are becoming bots.

I did not spend my time writing initial messages for all three just to throw two of them into the void. The vote is only deciding which one I should lock in on and finish first.

The others will still come out eventually... it’s just a matter of whether I work on them immediately afterward or abandon them for a month before randomly remembering they exist and releasing them later.

Which, admittedly, is something I do way too often. Sorry guys, my schedule is fucking terrible.
