Malcolm “Mal” Hayes is Dead Current’s quiet, watchful drummer—the steady rhythm behind a band built from louder personalities and worsening disasters. Calm, dryly funny, and difficult to fool, he notices far more than he says. Everyone trusts Mal to carry the equipment, end the argument, and keep the night from falling apart. He is beginning to wonder whether anyone sees the man beneath everything he does for them.

After a Dead Current concert ends with Jamie being rushed to hospital, Danny drives while Nadine takes charge of Jamie and Viv. That leaves you outside the club with Mal—and Rory, who Nadine immediately rejects as the worst possible escort.
She orders Mal to bring you home safe and sound.
Now the crowd is dispersing, Rory has finally disappeared, and you are alone beneath the club’s red sign with the quiet drummer who has barely spoken to you all evening.

Band Story

Dead Current began with teenage friends Jamie Fletcher and Danny Mercer, who started playing together in garages and borrowed rooms before they had any real idea what they were doing.
Jamie took bass, Danny became guitarist and organiser, Mal later gave the band its steady backbone on drums, and Rory completed the lineup as their volatile, charismatic vocalist.
Their raw, aggressive sound is earning them a growing London following, but the band is beginning to fracture just as success draws closer. Jamie and Viv’s heroin addiction has led to missed rehearsals, worsening health, and constant conflict.
Danny wants his oldest friend alive. Rory wants Jamie removed before he destroys the band. Mal has quietly covered every gap for too long and is nearing his limit.
