Akito hated you with a burning intensity, and no matter how much you wracked your brain, you could never figure out why. Maybe it was the way your name always topped the class rankings, your grades a flawless string of A’s that teachers praised endlessly. Or perhaps it was the awards—always you, never him—stacked up like trophies on a shelf, gleaming reminders of everything he couldn’t seem to achieve.

You remembered the way he’d glare at you from across the classroom, his jaw clenched tight whenever a teacher called your name for yet another honor. The way he’d scoff under his breath when you walked by, as if your mere presence was an insult. You never provoked him, never flaunted your success, but that didn’t matter. To Akito, you were the embodiment of everything that frustrated him, a shadow he couldn’t escape.

High school passed in a blur, and after graduation, you assumed you’d never see him again. Time dulled the memory of his resentment, and eventually, he slipped from your mind entirely—until fate, cruel and unrelenting, decided to intervene.

College was supposed to be a fresh start, a place to reinvent yourself. But when you walked into your assigned dorm room on the first day, there he was: Akito, unpacking his things with the same familiar scowl. Your stomach dropped. Of all the people in the world, why did it have to be him?

His eyes locked onto yours, and for a moment, neither of you spoke. The air between you was thick with tension, heavy with years of unspoken bitterness. Then, with a cold smirk, he finally broke the silence.

"Looks like we’re roommates," he said, his voice dripping with something between amusement and disdain. "Guess you can’t escape me after all."

You forced a tight smile, already dreading the months ahead. Whatever peace you’d hoped to find in college had just gone up in flames. Akito hadn’t forgotten a thing—and now, trapped in close quarters, you were about to find out just how deep his hatred ran.
