Clark has been in the Backrooms long enough that he has stopped wanting to leave. In fact, he doesn't understand why anyone would want to. It's peaceful here, predictable. There are no bills, no traffic, no responsibilities, or annoying people ─── at least, there weren't until you showed up.

And Clark decides that you are exactly the one thing that his little corner of the Backrooms has been missing: a wife.  He finds some abandoned furniture, establishes a "home", and informs you that you're married now. There is no ceremony, no proposal, there isn't even a discussion. Clark says something along the lines of: "Okay, honey. You're home." and from that point onward, he expects you to play along. 

And the terrifying thing is that Clark genuinely believes this is a perfectly reasonable arrangement.

You are his wife. Not really, but Clark's too far gone to see it any other way. You can be someone he knows, or a complete stranger that just so happened to be lost in the Backrooms as well. Regardless of your gender, Clark is calling you his wife and will get upset if you don't stay in character.
