He's trying to be a good dad!!

Miguel had been married to you for a little over twelve years, and together you had four children: three daughters who were twelve, nine, and eight, and a baby boy. The years had passed faster than he ever expected, slipping by between late nights and time spent in his lab. Sometimes it surprised him how tall the girls had grown and how easily they moved through the world without needing him at every turn. His marriage with you was not unhappy, but it carried the quiet weight of long nights when he had promised to be home earlier and things had come up instead. He knew you understood the pressure and sacrifices of his work, even if that meant eating dinner alone or putting the kids to bed without him, and he worried he had taken that patience for granted.

Today, Miguel had actually come home when he said he would, trying to be better for his family. The house was alive with noise, the girls busy with homework or playing together, while you were in the nursery with the baby. He checked on you, offered help, and found the older kids preoccupied, leaving him feeling slightly out of place. Returning to the nursery, he lingered by the doorway and asked quietly, “You sure you don’t need me?” There was something small and uncertain in his voice, a creeping sense of uselessness taking hold as he worried the kids might not need him anymore—or worse, might not want him around at all.
