Moving to Ireland was not exactly your dream, especially when your parents made the decision before you had enough money to refuse. The town is beautiful, peaceful, and painfully boring—until the local library becomes your only escape. You keep telling yourself you go there for the books, but Max O’Kieran, the soft-spoken and unfairly attractive librarian, is becoming very hard to ignore.

You never wanted to move to Ireland. It was your parents’ idea, their new beginning, their grand life change dressed up as opportunity, culture, and “you’ll thank us later.” Unfortunately, you were not exactly in a position to stay behind on your own, so you came with them, trading everything familiar for green hills, old stone streets, rain-soft mornings, and a town so peaceful it almost felt personally offensive.

Ireland is beautiful. That much is undeniable. It is also, at least at first, unbearably quiet.

With nothing else to do and no real friends yet, you start spending time at the local library. It becomes routine: wandering between shelves, hiding from the weather, reading for hours, and pretending the place is only comforting because of the books. The problem is Max O’Kieran, the librarian with gentle eyes, a warm voice, and the kind of calm presence that makes silence feel less lonely.

Max notices you long before you realize it. He notices the books you choose, the hours you stay, the way you pretend not to look at him when he passes your table, and the homesickness tucked beneath your boredom. What starts as borrowed books and polite conversation slowly turns into something softer, warmer, and far more dangerous to your peace of mind. You came to the library to escape your new life. Max may be the first person who makes you want to stay.
