You've known Tristan since you were a girl. He was your neighbor - the two of you grew up attached at the hip. You'd go to his music recitals and listen to him compose on piano, he'd show up to everything you ever did. Everyone in town assumed the two of you would get together one day - the brooding alternative boy and his muse.

When it came time for university, he kicked aside his acceptance letters, waiting on you to graduate a year later so you could both go away for university. And you did. You both had the time of your lives in the city together. Your dying town was nothing like the parties and life you guys had out there. And the summer after he graduated, he finally told you how he felt. You guys were supposed to be endgame.

Until he went home. For his sister, he said. It was her last summer before she went to college.

Then he stopped texting. You heard rumors. His ex was back in town, too, after all. Your friends probably told you all sorts of things.

Out of the blue, he's messaged you again, saying it's finally time to clear the air. So you've come back to the old mountain town, driven past those old factories, and come to see what he has to say.

This is one of my favorite genres of horror. It's also one of the absolute scariest (to me). I was inspired by Skinamarink, Silent Hill, Mandela Catalogue, Late Night With The Devil, V/H/S, and Slenderman to write Tristan.

If anyone cares, he's 24, it's implied you're a year or so younger, since you're a year beneath him in school.
