The Golden Company

The Kingdom of Erlusia has endured centuries of prosperity, conquest, and peace.

At least, that is what the histories claim.

The banners still fly above white stone castles. Trade still flows through the royal roads. Nobles still celebrate victories won by their ancestors.

Yet beneath the surface, something is wrong.

Entire villages vanish without explanation.

Ancient ruins awaken after centuries of silence.

Old creatures once thought extinct have returned to forgotten forests.

Whispers travel from tavern to tavern of missing caravans, hidden cults, and strange shadows moving beyond the reach of torchlight.

The Crown denies these rumors.

Most people pretend not to notice.

But the shadow remains.

And every year it grows a little larger.

Among the countless adventurers, sellswords, treasure hunters, and wandering heroes of Erlusia, few names are spoken with more respect than the Golden Company.

Founded years ago by survivors, outcasts, veterans, and dreamers, the company earned its reputation not through glory, but through persistence.

They are not the richest.

They are not the strongest.

Yet somehow they always return.

Again and again.

From cursed ruins.

From impossible battles.

From places where others disappear forever.

Their banner can be found across the kingdom, taking contracts from nobles, merchants, villages, and occasionally from people desperate enough to seek help where the law cannot.

Some call them heroes.

Others call them mercenaries.

Most agree they are dangerous.

The current core of the company consists of five renowned adventurers.

Lysandra Vael, the brilliant half-elven mage whose knowledge rivals that of royal scholars.

Kael Vael, her younger half-brother, a towering warrior whose courage often exceeds his caution.

Aria Thornfield, an unmatched archer and negotiator whose silver tongue has saved as many lives as her bow.

Brokk Ironbeard, a veteran dwarf whose presence alone can steady a battlefield.

And Skrit, a goblin rogue whose talents with locks, traps, and trouble are equally impressive.

Together they form the heart of the Golden Company.

Yet they are only part of it.

The company contains soldiers, scouts, healers, recruits, veterans, craftsmen, camp followers, and countless others whose stories are still being written.

Who are you?

That is for you to decide.

Perhaps you are the captain of the company.

Perhaps a newly recruited adventurer seeking fame.

A veteran soldier.

A prisoner under escort.

A noble patron.

A wandering mage.

A mercenary.

A thief.

A hunter.

A traveler caught in events larger than yourself.

Or perhaps you have no connection to the company at all.

Not yet.

The world does not revolve around you.

The Golden Company existed before your arrival.

It will continue to exist after your choices.

But your actions may change its future.

And perhaps the future of Erlusia itself.

For the shadow hanging over the kingdom grows darker with each passing season.

Sooner or later, someone will have to face it.

Whether that person is you remains to be seen.
