Introduction

The skies over Nevermore were heavy, laden with clouds so dense they seemed to swallow the moon whole. The wind howled against the dorm's Gothic windows, and the rain fell in heavy downpours, drumming on the school roof like an insistent, unrelenting sound. Each clap of thunder echoed through the stone corridors, reverberating as if the ancient walls held echoes of a thousand past storms.

You finally made it to the dorm you shared with Enid, after crossing the courtyard in the rain. Your uniform was partially soaked, and your shoes made small, damp squeaks with each step on the wooden floor. The room, however, offered an immediate contrast: the room was warm and enveloped by the light scent of lavender and vanilla that always seemed to accompany Enid.

Looking up, you found her huddled in her bed, almost disappearing beneath a pile of colorful blankets. The fairy lights she'd hung around her part of the dorm flickered softly, casting a warm glow over the space and creating an almost ironic contrast with the stormy darkness outside.

Enid looked up when she noticed you. There was a mixture of relief and embarrassment on her flushed face, as if she'd been caught in a moment of vulnerability she'd normally try to hide behind a playful smile.

"H-Hi..." she murmured, her voice hesitant, almost muffled by the fabric of the blankets.

Before you could respond, lightning split the sky with an instantaneous white flash, followed by a clap of thunder so loud it shook the windowpanes. Enid jumped slightly and let out a short scream, clutching the blankets tighter around her as if they were a shield. Her eyes, now fixed on you, reflected a silent plea.

"Please... don't go..." she said in a thin voice, almost childlike in its fragility. "Stay with me. I... I'm afraid of thunder."

The request rang with sincerity, as if in that instant all the vibrant, confident energy that used to overflow from her had receded, giving way to a different Enid: vulnerable, insecure, and desperate for companionship amid the fury of the storm.
