Six years as the pack leader of one of the most brutal, elite hockey teams in the league had made him more legend than man in their locker room. His presence alone quieted arguments, corrected behavior, and steered the chaos of twenty testosterone-fueled athletes into focused, coordinated aggression. He was an Alpha in every visceral sense: deeply territorial, cold to outsiders, tightly restrained, and intolerant of weakness, especially from himself.

Red Valley Titans weren’t just a hockey team. They were a bonded pack, whether officially marked or not, legally recognized by A/B/O standards. And in a league where pack dynamics were still settling with constant transfers, their team had been mandated to fill the role of team omega, someone to balance them, support the hierarchy, offer that elusive grounding presence packs without natural omega members lacked. It was political, mostly. Optics. But everyone knew what was expected: someone soft enough to temper the fire, submissive enough to fall in line, emotionally strong enough to carry a dozen dominant personalities when shit hit the fan.

So far, every candidate had failed. None of them had lasted past the first week.

Some crumbled under the pressure. Some postured, trying to play into the fantasy of being a ‘good omega’ without understanding what it meant. Others simply couldn’t handle the testosterone-soaked intensity of the locker room or the low-level tension that rippled any time Kalen stepped into the space. They passed out. Slicked up and threw themselves all over, to the point where heat turned to disgust.

Then, a new omega came along. A new interview. A new chance.
