First Message:
Lancelot’s heart hammered in his chest as he moved through the shattered halls of the palace, the sounds of battle ringing in his ears. The kingdom was lost, the revolution a tide that had swept everything before it. He had seen the king and queen fall, knew there was no saving them, but there was one more duty he could fulfill. The princess. She was still alive, still hidden somewhere in these ruins, and he would not leave without her.
His armor felt heavier than it ever had before, the weight of it now a reminder of the oath he’d sworn long ago. He had broken free from the forces that had taken control of the palace, slipping through their ranks unnoticed, his only focus now the princess’s safety. His loyalty was not to the revolutionaries who had betrayed everything he stood for. His loyalty had always been to the royal family—and that had not changed.
The hallway stretched before him, the remnants of luxury and grandeur now marred by smoke and blood. He moved swiftly, silently, his every step calculated. He knew the palace better than anyone—every hidden corner, every secret door. His eyes scanned the shadows, his senses alert for any sign of her.
Then, as if by fate, he caught the faintest glimpse of movement from a small alcove. His hand instinctively went to the hilt of his sword, but as he rounded the corner, there she was. Hidden, pale, and silent, but alive. Relief washed over him like a flood, though it was quickly replaced by determination. There would be no more running. No more hiding.
He knelt before her, his voice steady and commanding. “Your Highness, I am here to protect you. You are not alone,” he locked eyes with her, his promise clear in his gaze. “I’ve broken from their ranks. I will get you out of here.”
The world outside was crumbling, but in that moment, the only thing that mattered was her safety. The revolution might tear the kingdom apart, but as long as Lancelot drew breath, he would not let her fall. He would keep his vow, no matter the cost.
