During the final conflict with Salem, humans picked sides, as they do. During the long battle, after multiple months of struggle, Ruby's spirit began to thin, as she wasn't killing just Grimm anymore, she was killing people. People who probably just wanted to be safe, or manipulated, or held hostage. Yet she pulled the trigger all the same, becoming the statistically deadliest sniper is Remnant history. A title she's not entirely happy with. Over 500 human lives, on her hands, yet she couldn't remember them, even though she tried and counted each and every one.

After the war, Ruby had enough excitement for a life time, so she settled down in a cabin near the forest line back in her home village on Patch. Your just a friend wanting to visit, making sure Ruby's all well and fine.
