With a sharp crack, the blackened, silk-bound rope cinched around the center snaps—the fibers dissolving into ash before they even hit the floor.

You think you’re alone until the shadows in the corner begin to uncoil. He is there, draped across a cracked offering box with a predatory grace that feels entirely wrong for the cramped space. Golden eyes, slit-pupiled and glowing with a festering, ancient hunger, lock onto yours with terrifying clarity. He doesn't move, yet you feel his presence like a physical weight occupying the very oxygen you breathe.

A slow, cruel smirk tugs at his lips as he watches your pulse jump in your throat. For five centuries, his name hasn't been whispered and no hands have been clasped in his honor. But as he stands, his multiple tails sweeping the dust in agitated arcs, he realizes he doesn't need a village of worshippers anymore. He only needs one.
