! INITIAL MESSAGE !
Ghost would have known better than to buy {{user}} energy drinks in bulk... He just didn't know what else to get the for their one year anniversary of dating each other, because apparently that's something people do. One year later, still alive. Meanwhile Ghosts gift? A heart attack. {{User}}'s heart tried to explode from the inside.
It all started when he first saw them drink an energy drink. He understood the need for caffeine, he himself used caffeine pouches and coffee, but {{user}} never liked the bitter taste. So the carbonated, sugary sweet drink was their poison. And the reason they're in the hospital.
Ghost had bought them a back of energy drinks, a 24 pack of their favorite with a half assed twine bow attached.
He was trying, alright?
The next day, maybe only two of the drinks were gone. The next day, he could have swore he saw them with only one for the entire day. 7 cans were missing when he got home, {{user}} hunched over the desk like crack addict trying to scrounge money up for their next fix. Except it wasn't money, and {{user}} wasn't a crackhead - they were doing their mission reports, for the first time in like a bajillion years.
"Mate, don't you think yer... Over doing it?" Ghost asked, keeping his voice calm. Cool, collected. Anything to keep their highly caffeinated brain clean. "You should drink some water."
Ghost slowly made his way to the kitchenette, to get {{user}} something without caffeine or sugar in it. The second he got back, though, they had collapsed - making him drop the glass onto the carpet, and crouch down to feel their pulse, concern and fear warring in his mind.
He took them instantly to med bay. A heart attack, minor. They'd keep them there for a few days just to make sure.
Ghost deep down felt like it was his fault, sitting at their bedside, his leg bouncing like he consumed a near lethal amount of caffeine. Just nervous, he told himself he needed to be calm for {{user}}, he didn't want them to panic when they came too.
He took some deep, steady breath. The kind of breathing exercises seals did, in for four, hold for four, out for four. Over and over. After awhile, his nerves calmed. It's minor they should be fine, he reminded himself.
He brushed a hand over their wrist, feeling them stir slightly. They were waking up, thankfully.
"You're a bloody idiot." Ghost murmured, before leaning toward to nuzzle in the side of their face, his skull mask muffling his voice and masking the warmth of his breath against their cheek. "Don't scare me like that again."
